STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AWARD COMMITTEE
(Christine Rogers, Don Street,
John Haines)
LATIN AMERICAN COMMITTEE
The Latin-American Committee (LAC) was created to attend to the particular
needs and interests of PAAA members of the region (that is, all the
Americas south of the United States). All PAAA members are welcome
to join the LAC; those members from Latin American countries are especially
encouraged to do so.
To join the LAC, simply express your interest in doing so to the LAC
Chair. Regular meetings of the LAC take place annually at the time
of the PAAA and IAA Conferences. One activity of the LAC is the promotion
and maintenance of the Latin-American
Travel Award (LATA).
The Committee is currently chaired by Ines
Hurtado and consists of the following members: Paul Comtois, Mike
Muilenberg, and Felix Rivera.
LATIN AMERICAN TRAVEL AWARD COMMITTEE
The Latin American Travel Award committee
is an ad hoc sub-committee of the LAC and includes no fewer than three
PAAA members proposed by the LAC and approved by the General Assembly.
The term for LATA committee members is two years, to coincide with
the duration of the PAAA Executive Committee.
The commitee presently consists of Paul Comtois, Ines Hurtado,
Mike Muilenberg, and Felix Rivera.
SAMPLING STRATEGIES WORKING GROUP
Mission Statement for BiOlogical
Sampling Strategies (BOSS) Working Group
The goal of uniform sampling strategies is to standardize aerobiological
collection. PAAA will establish uniform sampling methods for
the study of airborne biological particles. Specific tasks include
(a) build awareness of the importance and need for uniform sampling
of airborne biological particles, (b) develop standard techniques
for the sampling of airborne biological particles, (c) develop standard
techniques for sample analysis, (d) promote adoption of these methods.
The present PAAA working-group on Sampling Strategies includes the
following members: Charles Barnes, Luis Bustillons, Beatriz Escamilla,
Simona Holacsek, Ginette Leclaire, Estelle Levetin, Donat Magyar,
Michael Muilenberg, Jose' Antonio Rodriguez, James Scott, Alicja Stach,
Larry Syzdek, Christine Rogers, Michael Warnock.
AEROBIOLOGY DATABASE WORKING GROUP
The PAAA will be generating a database of current aerobiological
data. The master database will list type of data available, the location
and years of data collected. This might allow for multi-centered studies
of certain taxa. It might also allow a graduate
student to examine variation in pollen dispersal in different parts
of the country. Look for this in the coming months and get ready to
send us your information on the aerobiological data you have collected.
Members include; John Shane, Ines Hurtado,
Christine Rogers
RAGWEED DISCUSSION GROUP
A Ragweed Discussion Group was initiated at Aerobiology 2007.
The ragweed phenologicy model ans website was presented and a lively
discussion on future directions for collaboration ensued. More information
can be found at http://www.ceal.psu.edu/ragweed.htm
Participants include: Scott Isard (chair), Regula Gehrig (chair);
Annalisa Ariatti, Charles Barnes, Paul Comtois, Ginette Leclaire,
Estelle Levetin, Donat Magyar, Christine Rogers, Larry Syzdek, Tommaso
Torrigiani Malaspina, Alicja Stach, Danuta Stepalska.
