| Poetry Club Update
By Myrrima Goldenleaf Hello everyone! It's me again, here to give you all an update on what's going on in the poetry club. First off, congratulations to Bryony Casten of Penshire for winning the July contest! Here is her winning poem: This place Anything but quiet. Anything but still. Poets describe gardens: Peaceful, serene, calm, Relaxed, hushed, tranquil. Everyone makes mistakes: Even poets. Be not fooled, A gardenthis garden Brims with life, forever changes, moves. An unpredictable nature, A course unset, irregular, Not unlike this poem I write. Mother Nature serves none But herself. A constant flurry of activity; Sudden birth and sudden death, Life and all that comes with it. This place Anything but quiet. Anything but still. To see the other poems in the July contest, you can go here. Secondly, we had a new contest for August. The theme was 'It makes me wonder' and to enter you had to write a poem that would be able to fit under that title. I will give you all the entries and the outcome of the contest next month as voting has not started yet. ;) |

By a young lioness 'Today we faced a trauma that we never expected to see. Our nation shall rise again and conquer the threat of tyranny. Brave men and women died today beside the innocent May's child. The faces of all who perished brought hate, despair, and fear wild. We each have made a commitment to stand to the front. We promise to be brave and strong even in the midst of the brunt. America stands for freedom. So today we stand and shout We shall rise from the ashes Just as the phoenix lifted itself out. September 11, 6 years ago, the World Trade Center was attacked. On that day, four U.S. planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people in a matter of hours. Behind the staggering number of deaths are the individuals, each of whom left behind family, friends and co-workers who feel the national tragedy on a personal level. Even if you do not live in the United States, please take a moment on this day to remember all of those who were killed. | Ask Drew
Dear Drew, this is my problem guy 1 and guy 2 are best friends for like 6 years. Guy 1 dates girl 1 for like a few months and broke up last December and girl 1 is guy 2's best friend. Guy 2 has been dating Girl 2 on and off for over more than a year. Girl 1 likes Guy 2 a lot and Guy 2 likes Girl 1 too and today Guy 2 broke off with Girl 2 because her parents didn't like him...so Guy 2 is confused if he should date Girl 1..and he isn't sure if he would be betraying Guy 1's friendship if he goes out with Girl 1 what should Guy 2 do? From ~ Mr. confused |

| Dear Mr. confused,
first of all take a breather you just got out of a long relationship no need to jump into another right away or the girl will think she is the rebound. take at least a month or so then ask your friend if he would care. if he says he doesn't still take it real slow with the girl just to see his reaction to make sure he is really fine with the idea and about girl2 make sure you have no more deep feelings for her until you make you next step. Sincerely ~Drew |

| Gryffindor of the Month
By Kalie Black Though its been a long while, once again, we have a Gryffindor of the Month. This months Gryffindor, after a close vote, is Roxanne Whitez. This often-energetic brunette is, without a doubt, an important member of our house, but before I get to her many contributions to Gryffindor, I think Ill share with you some of her history. Roxanne Feu Whitez was born on August 18th 1992 to the King and Queen of the Northern Romania Kingdom, Zelth Whitez and Amazerya CrossRose. Roxannes father was a Vampire and a Curse-Breaker while Roxannes mother was Elvin, making Roxanne an Elf Vampire. She had an older brother by the name of Kalven Whitez who was twelve at the time of her birth. Roxanne grew up in Northern Romania as a happy child and spent much of her childhood training, although she didnt exactly desire the throne and so was something of a tomboy. She was exceptionally close with her brother as a child, especially because he taught her everything. Unfortunately, when Roxanne was seven her brother died. Kalven Whitez was in training to become a Curse-Breaker in Romania, just like his father. In 1999, however, articles were printed about his mysterious disappearance, and rather recently, Roxanne discovered that an unknown death eater had actually killed him. Her brothers disappearance shattered Roxanne. When Roxanne got her letter for Hogwarts, she was indifferent about going to her new school. She was still depressed about Kalven, and thinking about Hogwarts brought up memories of him. He had always told her about going to Hogwarts. But when she got to Hogwarts, Roxanne made friends fairly quickly. She soon came to enjoy Hogwarts, except, perhaps, for Transfiguration. In February of her 4th Year, on the 15th, Roxanne got a baby sister named Amita Neige Whitez. Roxanne is a tall, confident girl with almond-shaped green eyes and long brown hair. Her ears are slightly pointy, but during certain times of the month Roxanne undergoes something of a transformation: her ears become pointier, a line of silver appears in her eyes, and a chain of light green symbols appear going from her right shoulder to her right elbow. This change and her general appearance are evidence of her heritage from her parents. Now, this Gryffindor is set to be a 5th Year and she has given so much to the house of Gryffindor. For one thing, Roxanne is almost always a cheerful presence in the common room, content to spread this cheer through her sugar quills because she does not like to see people unhappy. Roxanne has a mischievous spirit and can often be found off on adventures. Rose Wick of Gryffindor said of Roxanne, She's [also] funny, which is just something extra, but can really make people pay attention to you. Roxanne can be competitive, but shes probably the most patient of her friends and usually is a calming force, although at times she can lose control of her temper. When it comes to her friends, Roxanne can be very protective and she is loyal, which is one of the reasons why she is such a beloved member of the Gryffindor House. This 3rd/5th Year is usually one of the first to greet new students and welcome them to the House of Gryffindor and she offers her service as a mentor to new students. Although Roxanne is not technically a staff member, people know that shes always around to offer her help if others need it. Megan Miller, Gryffindor prefect, fourth year, and good friend of Roxanne reported, Shes always there to help around the house if us Prefects and PA's need an extra hand. Another Gryffindor, Narcissa-Rae Crystal, a third year, offered her opinion of Roxanne. Calling Roxanne a helpful, playful, and kind person and like a big sister to me, Narcissa spoke fondly of our Gryffindor of the Month. Narcissa recalled how Roxanne had been the one to guide her on her first day and still helps her out. Narcissa had a lot of glowing praise for Roxanne and concluded her statement by saying, All in all, Roxanne is very loving. She's always there to finish what she starts, and she never lets anyone down. These words are probably some of the best ones to describe Roxanne Whitez, and are echoed by all of those who know and love her. Gawyn Crossguard, Roxannes gentleman, said, Shes been voted Gryffindor of the Month so many times, already, and that pretty much says it all. He continued on to say, Shes a pretty special person. Leah Black and myself are related to Roxanne, plus Lynexe (of Penshire) and Bryan Couronne. A long time ago, back in our family trees, a Whitez married a Black, and the rest, as they say, is history. Roxanne is mydistantcousin and also one of my best friends. She was one of the first people that I met in the Gryffindor common room when I first arrived here, and so I know from personal experience that Roxanne is incredibly nice, friendly, and is one of the greatest friends a person could ask for. Leah, although regrettably unavailable, also values Roxanne as a great friend, perhaps because Roxanne always sees the good in everybody. All of her friends would say the same glowing things about our Soxie if you were to ask. In fact, Audrea Martin, one of Gryffindors prefects proclaimed that Roxanne was one of her favorite people. She's just a really good friend. I've known Rox for a pretty long time, and she's a good person to talk to, always encouraging me and everyone else. She is so amazingly helpful and always good for ideas. And Kururu Espoire, a 2nd Year, said, She's definitely friendly, is the sugar quill queen. Roxx is always warm to newbies and is one of my best friends. Roxanne is one of the many hardworking members of the Gryffindor population. According to Audrea, You can count on her. When you ask Sox to do something, you can pretty much bet it's gonna get done. Sox is really good about keeping things exciting too. She works hard on everything around here and is just as active in school-wide activities. Not only does she run the Quidditch Team Support Club, but also last term she was one of the members of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. Roxanne also participates in other house clubs. Besides that, shes the Gryffindor House Reporter for the Gazette and works hard to organize the Gryffindor houses articles. Roxanne is active in the Art, Writing, and Poetry Clubs as well as Different Faiths, One Place and the Hogwarts Band. Last Year, Roxanne was on the Student Council, starting off as a house representative before moving to Treasurer. Megan Miller continued her statement about Roxanne by saying, She's a good student who works hard to earn us points. She's always encouraging others and is there to help around the house. Basically, Roxanne is always working towards helping Gryffindor. Shes always encouraging people to participate in House/School Post and Point-A-Thons as well as reminding people to do the monthly challenges and contests. Roxanne is always eager to let people know the many things that they can do to gain points for Gryffindor. These words barely begin to cover what an incredible person Roxanne Whitez is. Not only does she work hard for Gryffindor, but also shes forever willing to lend a hand and help other people. Roxanne is actively involved in just about everything offered to her and she makes sure that other people feel welcome, not just in Gryffindor, but also at PADs. Roxanne Whitez deserves to be this months Gryffindor as I hope this article has made apparent. |
