Owen Meany , born into a family of Granite workers, was a very small child and adult. At the time of his birth his mother clams she was still a virgin. As he grew up his voice didn't mature so he lived with a very peculiar voice. Owen thus believed his voice and birth were a gift from God. Owen has an incredibly deep belief in God and also believes he lives for God like Jesus did. Owen also get Johnny to believe in God. Throughout the book Owen believes he is on a mission for God which he dies for upon saving the children. As time passes Owen continues to help Johnny because of the death of his mother and Owens contribution to it. He repeats a grade in school so that he can help Johnny in school and also cuts off Johnny's finger to save him for going to Vietnam. Owen believes he will die as a hero throughout the book. Also he visualizes his death in a dream he has. Then in the end Owen dies saving the lives of Vietnamese boys in a bathroom in Arizona. Owen loved only a few people in his life. Hester Eastman was on, who we find out Owen lost his virginity to. Another was Tabby Wheelwright, Johnny's mother, who Owen kills accidentally. Owen lived his life to the fullest, and always was there for a friend in need. Also Owen meet his goals in life before he died. In death Owen accomplished his lifelong goal. |
