"You are forthwith required to march the MILITIA under your command from this county to HILLSBOROUGH, North Carolina, or any other post where GENERAL STEVENS may be with the men under his command, observing to avoid a surprise by the enemy, by the best route to be found."

It is likely that William MOORE (II) was born in Caroline County, Virginia. Tax records prove that he was living in Henry County, Virginia, as early as 1782 - 1787 (date of tax list). One of William MOORE�S neighbors was Thomas Smith, Captain under Colonel Penn who commanded 21 Companies in the Henry County Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War. Other neighbors were Alexander Joyce. David Lanier, and Henry Mayes according to Henry County Deed Records.
