Our holiday schedule is different from that of most other forums.

Many other forums are not moderated. They usually don't have holidays at all.

Other forums follow the civil calendar.

Ours follow the Jewish calendar - with some extra Jewish days added as well.

However, not every colored date on your Jewish calendar is necessarily considered a holiday by Jewish Groups. On some of these days, we send out messages as usual. These dates are determined by experts in Jewish law, and not by our Jewish Groups.

We hope that fact doesn't confuse you - and we invite you to review our policy for vacations on our Jewish Groups. We will relate to the following issues in this section on Holidays:

• We'll present a general view of our holiday schedule.
• That general view is obviously too simple for us. We're Jews. We will therefore deal with the many fast days throughout the year in which observant Jews do not eat.
• On the other hand, there may be days that you would not expect to have email go through - but they are not considered holidays on our groups. It works both ways.
• And that's not all. There will be other holidays forced on us, on Yahoo, and on Geocities by our friendly Internet Service Provider whether we like it or not.
• Then our global village will have to define what we mean by a day.
• Some people may not understand the need for discussing a day - they thought they lived through many of them quite successfully already. We'll respond to their request for a consistent way of looking at the calendar.
• Others may not want the poor moderator to take off a day here and there. They may insist that their right to a free flow of information supersedes the moderator's right to take a breather with his family and to enjoy the holidays.
• And finally, we'll comment on urgent issues that arise while the groups are on vacation.

This section on Holidays and the Jewish Groups will relate to these issues.
