The Kosher group has a very defined purpose - more than most of the other groups.

The term Kosher means that the product is acceptable according to Jewish law. Thus, items that are not edible could be kosher. A Torah scroll could be kosher, for example. That would mean that it meets all of the Jewish requirements for use in a synagogue. In correct Hebrew, the term would be "KahSHERR" with a stress on the end of the word.

Our Kosher group relates only to Kosher foods. In the example given above, our Leining forum deals with issues relating to a Kosher Torah.

Certain foods have different Kashrut requirements in Israel. Those issues are discussed on the Shmitta forum.

For the purposes of our discussions on the Kosher forum, any Kashrut certifying body will be acceptable, with certain limitations, as stated in our Kosher group Guidelines.
