| We have spent two days
in Washington DC and walked the Smithsonian Museums until our feet are
screaming "uncle"! First day we visited Lincoln Memorial,
Vietnam Memorial, and National American History Museum. Second day we
spent most of our time in the Air and Space Museum and some time in the
National Art Museum.
Today, Saturday, we toured through Northwest Virginia to see a winery, lots of antique
shopping and a great drive through the Shenandoah mountains. Deloris found
some real jewels! Antique Amethyst stick-pin and a beautiful Garnet
ring. We'll need to come back and see more of Virginia. Monday was spent in
Prince William Forest National Park. Very near
Tracy's home, Prince William is a beautiful park and we had it to
ourselves. Unusual noise sounding like thunder proved to be artillery firing
at Quantico weapons training center not far from the park. Tuesday
we departed for Cape Cod MA and made it as far as the coast of Connecticut
just
south New London. The traffic jams of the Capitol beltway and NYC just
ate up our time, so I am posting from our motel tonight. |

Boston skyline
The drive to
Massachusetts was beautiful! I wish we had the large forested areas on
the west coast that are found on the east coast. We skirted Boston on
the east side and exited to look at Cambridge. With Deloris' excellent
map skills we managed to drive the coast north from Revere beach and
find an excellent camp at Salisbury Beach State Park. High temps and
humidity came over the area and we were glad to have the ocean
breezes. |
Thursday we drove to Lynn Massachusetts.
and spent the afternoon and evening with my cousin Donna and her husband
Bill Connolly. They
drove us up the coast to see all the historical and fine homes in the
area and treated us to a 'New England Clambake', super dinner. We
spent lots of time chattering about family history.
Thanks Bill and Donna we had a
great time! Lets do it again |

Very picturesque and scenic, we
spent Friday driving north into New Hampshire We noticed an
outdoor temp sign and were shocked to see 101 degrees! Upon
returning to the State Beach at Salisbury it seemed as though everyone
in Boston had come north to escape the heat. I've never camped in such
crowded conditions.
This morning we left for Cathy Neri's home in Dover New Hampshire. We had a
great afternoon visiting with Cathy, husband Phil and talking about
family. All agreed we should do this again. As one of my heroes once
said "I'll be back" |

Deloris and I agreed either of these homes
would suit us just fine, on the coast of New Hampshire! |
Maine!
After another good night in New Hampshire we drove the scenic back roads
to East Boothbay 'Haba' to see long lost cousin R.J.Secor and wife
Melissa. Dick is a well know for his watercolor depiction of the Maine
coast and the southwest and Melissa is an accomplished photographer.
We found Dick and Melissa on the back porch of their wonderful 1800's
home, we were greeted with open arms, given a tour and history of the
house. In a walk of the neighborhood, we visited a wonderful antique
store and home. As fog moved into the bay we took off in the car for a
show-me and picture stop of the bay. Still chattering like magpies we
all went to the 'Haba' for my third 'Lobsta' dinner in as many days and
we thoroughly enjoyed that.
More visiting at Dick and Melissa's as a thunder storm pounded the area,
we wound up the evening with promises all around to continue the
conversation when they get back to Scottsdale. |

06/21/01, Just a
quick up-date! We are in Wisconsin tonight after a week of camping New
England and headed for Fargo to do a few more chores for Deloris's mom.
Some family
record searching in NH and MA turned up nothing but we had a lot of fun
looking. The new truck (Baja Croozur) just turned 9000 miles so I guess
we've got it almost broken in!

heading west, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York State to California will be
