Why I Hate PeTA And You Should Too
Okay so saying you should hate PeTA too is a little extreme, I know, but it sounded good. I don't care if you hate them I just want to present the facts of why I think you should not support them. Your own opinion is up to you.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are hypocrites.  They lie and twist facts in order to sway people into their way of thinking giving them a false impression of what is true.  Granted, many groups present facts in a way that support their cause while a refuting group could present the same facts in their favor, PeTA, however,  takes this to another level.
PeTA Problems stem from their rediculous campaigns.

"Go Vegan!"...how about not?
PeTA claims that diets containing any meat cause heart disease, cancer, and strokes. Can you say WRONG!?
Any food not eaten in moderation will cause health problems.  They tell you that health experts say vegetarians have the best diet. Why then do so many vegetarians need to take supplements in order to make up for nutrients they lose by not eating meat? The human body is made to eat a diet of both plants and animals. We are naturally omnivores. Compare the teeth of a human to those of say a raccoon, another omnivorus species. And while we're at it, how about a horse's teeth, an herbivore.

Of course our teeth do not look exactly like the raccoons teeth. They kill the animals they eat with their teeth or at the very least carry it, this is why our incisors are small compared to other omnivores. The point is, we have incisors. These teeth are only found in animals that eat meat. Herbivores have only flat front teeth for cutting plant matter and molars to grind it up. Notice the large space in the horse's teeth where our incisors and pointed molars are. Gee wonder why the horse doesn't have them and we do.

Another reason people need to eat meat is for the nutrients which are in much higher quantities in meat. It is almost impossible to get enough Iron in your diet without eating meat. And guess what, lack of iron makes you go insane! Guess thats what happened to Ingrid Newkirk, President of PeTA.  I don't know about you but the probability of going insane on a vegan diet just doesn't appeal to me.
PeTA also claims that the reason people are starving in the world is because so much of our grain goes to feeding livestock instead of people.  This is false.  There is not only enough food in the world to feed everyone, but there is more than enough. The only problem we face is in food distribution.  Some places have incredibly high populations and not enough farmable land.  Many have land that is not fertile enough to produce enough food to feed everyone.  In these cases, there is usually not enough money to import food from another country.  America has more than enough food for all of its citizens.  We overfeed ourselves and still export food to other countries, however the people who really need our surplus food don't get it because they don't have the resources our government wants in return. GoVeg.com states that "dairy-product consumption can lead to ailments including asthma, acne, diabetes, and even osteoporosis."  Let's think about this for a minute. Asthma: a respiratory disease which is caused and worsened by allergies to things like dust and animal hair and smoking, first or secondhand. Acne: dirt and bacteria in your skin and genetics are the causes of acne and is in no way connected to
anything you eat, including dairy products.  Diabetes: a condition in which insulin production is usually affected. Usually cause by high sugar consumption or genetics. Again nothing to do with dairy. Osteoporosis: (don't make me laugh) osteoporosis is thinning and weakening of the bones because of a lack of calcium...yes drinking milk and eating cheese and yogurt full of calcium will cause this disease...I don't think so! Give me a break PeTA, at least make your lies believeable if you want to convert people.
This is what happens to dairy cows who are not milked. Mastitis: inflammation of the mammary glands. Can also be caused by other things, but if you don't milk them they are highly uncomfortable. If you don't take a chicken's eggs, they rot and become completely useless. Now thats just not fair to the chickens...they make a lot of noise when they lay, I'm pretty sure it's not because they're having fun.  *keep in mind they can't help it*
If you have ever seen the video "Meet your Meat" you were probably appalled by what they say is the majority of the meat industry with cows and pigs in horrible conditions even stating that a cow with an extremely infected, empty eye socket is USDA Grade A choice beef.  Yet again, please don't make me laugh, if that cow were shown to the USDA the farm would be shut down. They claim that these are 99% of what animals raised for consumption live like.  I'm a girl who lives in the country. I have been on beef farms, dairy farms, pig farms, and chicken farms.  Animals raised for these purposes are treated like gold. Partially because they are worth a hell of a lot of money.  In New York state alone, an egg laying hen is worth approximately $20.  That is how much money you would be granted if say a neighbor's dog killed your chicken.  How do I know? It's happened to me. I eat the freshest eggs you can imagine.  I can take an egg immediately after it is laid, cook it and eat it.  PeTA wants you to think that every egg is a potential living chicken. But there can be no new chicken if there is no rooster to fertilize the egg.  They also would have you believe that the chickens lay eggs because they want to have chicks and practically choose to lay eggs.  This is simply not true.  Every chicken, unless it is too old, lays one egg every day not by choice.  A chicken's egg that we eat is basicaly equivalent to a woman's period, as disgusting as that sounds, it's true.  The only time a chicken cares if you takes its eggs is when they have mated with a rooster or are feeling "broody," this is when they sit on a nest.  The majority of the time they lay their egg and leave until the next day when they need to lay again.  In fact, many chickens eat their own eggs.  However they usually only do that if it is broken.
PeTA doesn't want you to drink milk either because dairy cows are supposedly treated as milk machines. It is true that they are bred and the calves are often taken away shortly after birth in order to get the milk to sell. The calves are still well taken care of, being bottle fed until they can eat solid foods.  In some cases, the calves are left with their mothers because they do not need all of the milk the mother produces.  This extra milk is what is collected to be processed and sold.  If the cows are not milked daily, they become extremely sick. PeTA wants you to feel badly that the cows are "forced to mate" however...they are animals, and all animals breed, the only difference here is that the mate is chosen and they are not kept with the males all the time.  This is the same thing that happens with pure bred dogs, cats, and horses.
If you are Christian and are vegetarian because The Bible said so... (PeTA claimed Jesus was a vegetarian) Wake Up! The Bible explicitly states that you are supposed to eat animals and use them to do work for you. Don't misquote your own holy book, please.
What is with their "bumper" stickers? The ones that are really designed for PeTA supporters to throw on a stop sign. Yes, PeTA let's promote vandalism now. Of course they would probably say no we're good people we wouldn't promote vandalism, that's illegal.  The red with white lettering implies "stop."  Bullshit. Besides the fact that they are extremely annoying. I walk to my college campus everyday and someone decided to sticker several stop signs on campus.  It's really annoying to walk or drive down the street and see "STOP GO VEGAN," "STOP EATING ANIMALS," and "STOP WEARING FUR."  How about a new sticker in red and white, "PeTA." Slap that on a stop sign.  Better yet write over the annoying PeTA stickers with the word PeTA. Many more people would appreciate it that way.  Now thay have vegetarian starter kits on a street which is a popular college hangout too.  I especially love that they call it a "kit" when its just a stupid magazine full of quotes from famous vegetarians like the ever so intelligent Pamela Anderson. Yeah, because I'm going to listen to what that dumb blonde has to say. (Not to say all blondes are dumb, just that one.)  I've come to the conclusion that the only thing I hate more than PeTA, is PeTA supporters.
PeTA doesn't want you to wear fur, leather, or even wool.  I do agree with them that wearing fur is wrong, to a certain extent.  If you go out and shoot a deer, rabbit, raccon or something,  eat the meat and want to make a coat or whatever, go for it, more power to you, but if you want to wear 100 Chinchillas, you should just be punched in both eyes. Leather kind of goes with the whole deer thing. When cows are killed for eating and such, what's wrong with using another piece and making leather, rather than wasting it. Making things out of leather makes alot more sense.  Not wearing wool is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard.  Sheep need to be shorn. LIterally need to be.  If you don't sheer sheep they are extremely uncomfotable.  Not sheering sheep is considered animal abuse by the law. So if you would like sheep to overheat, have dirty, matted coats, and suffer, sure, protest wearing wool.
