Relationships

Souta has close ties to his family, and throughout the series has forged new relationships with others. ^^

Higurashi Kagome- Souta's fifteen year old sister and him share a strong brother/sister relationship. He refers to her as "Nee-chan" (Big sister) or "Kagome-nee-chan (Big sister Kagome.) Souta cares for Kagome quite a bit, and on one occasion even brings her books to school all by himself just because she forgot them. (See more on that instance here . ) In the same way, Kagome returns his concern by taking on a "proud big sister role." She wants to see her brother be successful, and as demonstrated in episode ninety, and seems to have no problem doting on him. She doesn't have a little sister to dress up and give advice to, but she seems to make quite well with just Souta. Souta and Kagome are fairly friendly in each other's presence, there's no doubt that they probably fight every once in a while, but they get along better than many siblings seem to. ^^

Mama Higurashi- Souta and Kagome both appear to be very close to their mother, and "Mama" as they refer to her obviously cares very deeply for them. Mama is a very laid back woman, allowing her children to do things that most parents wouldn't, (Like traveling through wells to Sengoku Jidai day in and day out, and in Souta's case encouraging her third grade child in his pursuits of a love life. Episode Ninety ^^;; ) but when it comes down to it she isn't laid back about what matters in her children's emotions are at stake. She has a way of comforting her children that is really unique, and very effective. (The scene in which Mama comforts Kagome at the Goshinboku after she comes back from seeing InuYasha with Kikyou is a prime example of this.)

Higurashi Jii-chan- Souta's eccentric old grandfather ("Jii-chan" to the entire family.) has a habit for making up ridiculous legends for anything and everything in his presence. Despite his obvious eccentricities and the fact that Souta can't be around him for two minutes without him going off on some tangent, Souta is close to his grandfather, and it's all too true that Jii-chan's rambles are often initiated by his worrying for his two grandchildren's well being.

InuYasha- Souta's initial feelings for InuYasha can be summed up with two words--- Hero-worship. Ever since their first real interaction with the Noh Mask incident, (See more on that here ) Souta has thought that InuYasha is just about the coolest thing in the world. Souta refers to InuYasha as "Inu-no-niichan" (Literally translated as "Older dog brother") or sometimes just "InuYasha-niichan" (Just older brother InuYasha.) It's cute, but there's likely a deeper meaning behind it than just being cute. Since Souta doesn't have any sort of male authority figure in his life like a father or older brother. (His Grandfather is elderly, and Mama seems to be the one handling the family for the most part.) He's taken InuYasha and placed him in the role of "older brother" in his mind. In other words he's given InuYasha the role of that older male figure that he lacks. The fact that Souta knows InuYasha has strong feelings for Kagome, and that Kagome reciprocates them just helps forward this in his mind. It seems that in the beginning of the series Souta saw InuYasha as some unattainable idol, but as the series has gone on he's forged more of a relationship with the Hanyou. Although he still hero-worships him; it's come to the point where Souta really sees InuYasha more as an "Older brother I can ask for advice and share things with." The part about being "so cool" seems to be secondary to that now.

As for InuYasha's feelings on Souta- he really does like the kid quite a bit. He hasn't expressed this openly of course, but that's just not in his character to do such a thing. It's fair to assume that if InuYasha were to spend more time around Souta, he would unintentionally place Souta in the role of "little brother." (As Souta has done with him.) InuYasha has no younger siblings at all, and while Shippou could occupy this role, the two are more antagonistic towards each other. (It's more likely that Shippou sees InuYasha and Kagome as his adoptive parents anyway.) InuYasha's only time scolding Souta has been when he refused to follow through with something. (Telling Hitomi how he feels in episode 90. ) Even that was good intentioned scolding though, not like the bullying he does when fighting with Shippou. It's quite likely that InuYasha has already begun to place Souta in the role of "little brother" in his mind, but of course… being InuYasha he would never admit that and probably doesn't even realize he's doing so.

Hitomi- Hitomi's first and only appearance was in an Anime only filler episode. (Episode 90) She's Souta's first crush, and he spends most of that episode working up the courage to tell her how he feels about her. Hitomi seems to be a fairly mild mannered girl, cute and very feminine. (They show her feeding bunnies. ^^;; ) Souta apparently knows everything about her. (He tells InuYasha where she sits in class, what color her school bag is and various other little facts.) When Souta approaches her to profess his feelings the first time, he hesitates and Hitomi walks away with her nose in the air saying "She doesn't like men who aren't sure of themselves." Souta finally is able to tell Hitomi how he feels at the end of the episode, she simply replies with "Souta-kun" and agrees to go out with him. (And then they embrace.) Hitomi seemed a bit surprised by the fact that Souta liked her, and it's unknown whether she had any feelings for him before he told her his. She must have liked him or she wouldn't have accepted his proposal, but they probably weren't as strong as Souta's were for her.

Buyo- The super obese Higurashi family cat, the family seems to have owned him for quite a while. Souta can often be seen playing with him, and seems to be very fond of him as a pet. (Buyo-Buyo literally means "fat" in Japanese ^^ )
