Appearances
Below is a guide to many of Souta's appearances (those that he's in there for more than a few seconds at least, as there are short flashes of him in some episodes) in the "InuYasha" Anime. As well as a little bit of a summary of what he does in those particular episodes. (For consistency, and due to appearances in Anime only filler episodes, I'll be using the Anime only as the source.)
Episode One- The girl who crossed over time and the sealed-away boy
In the first episode alone, Souta is one of the first characters we see. He is the one that informs Kagome that their pet cat Buyo has gone into the well house again, and it's when Kagome creeps down the stairs and finds the cat, that she's drawn into Sengoku Jidai for the first time by the Centipede Youkai. (And of course we know the story from there. ^^ )
Episode Four- Inverted-hair Ghost Yura
This is Souta and the rest of the family's first time meeting InuYasha. Kagome and her family are sitting down to a dinner of Oden when he barges in to take Kagome back. Mama immediately reaches up to fuzzle his ears, and Souta asks to do so as well. Unfortunately Kagome is dragged off before Souta can really "get to know" InuYasha. (But he'll have that opportunity later ^^ )
Episode Eleven- The curse of the Noh Mask revived in the modern
world. The episode where Souta gains his hero worship complex for InuYasha. Kagome's grandfather has found an old "Noh Mask" that ends up having a Shikon shard in it. The Noh Mask starts a fire and escapes. After capturing a fireman's body, it heads back to Kagome's home to steal her shikon shards. Kagome manages to save Souta and Buyo and they go outside. Kagome asks Souta to go to the well and retrieve InuYasha. Souta can't travel through the well of course, but InuYasha gets there just in the nick of time, making a dramatic entrance as he appears in front of Souta at the bottom of the well. Souta is clearly impressed by this, and after telling InuYasha what's going on… the Hanyou quickly saddles Souta onto his back and they make their way across Tokyo to rescue Kagome from the mask she's fighting off. InuYasha manages to defeat the mask. (And Souta thinks he's the coolest thing in the world from there on.) But as the sun begins to rise, they all quickly head back to the shrine. Kagome has tests to take in a few hours!
Episode 12- The Tatari Mokke and the little poltergeist
Souta's friend Satoru is in a coma, and hasn't come out of it since his apartment caught on fire a while back. They go to visit him in the hospital, and Souta explains that no one else will visit him because horrible disasters keep occurring around him. Kagome finds out it's the spirit of his sister, Mayu, who died in the fire that's causing the mischief because she thinks her mother let her die, and puts her to rest at the end by making her realize how much her mother loved her. Satoru comes out of the coma as well, much to Souta's happiness.
Episode 29- Sango's anguish and Kohaku's life
Souta brings Kagome's schoolbooks to class when she forgets them, and later on back in the Feudal era Kagome realizes how lucky she is to have her brother when Sango's brother Kohaku is resurrected by Naraku for his evil purposes.
Episode 38- Separated, the couple's feelings come to pass
Kagome goes back to her own time after getting in a spat with InuYasha. While Kagome is away, InuYasha gets up the courage to go visit her. Instead of running into Kagome he runs into Souta (who is very excited to see "Inu-no-niichan" of course.) InuYasha chickens out on confronting Kagome and instead makes Souta promise not to tell anyone he was there. "It's a promise between guys!" He tells Souta, who is more than happy to oblige. However, when Kagome asks why Souta was in her room, he replies with "It's a promise between guys!" So of course, Kagome knows exactly who just dropped by. ^^
Episode 82- The loophole between Modern Jidai and the Sengoku Jidai
InuYasha comes to Kagome's time, and after a series of crazy encounters while trying to take Kagome's lunch to school… proceeds to bug her that night while she is attempting to study. Kagome suggests Souta take a bath with him, and Souta is all too enthusiastic to do so. That is until InuYasha freaks out over the bubbles and runs into Kagome's room wearing nothing but soapy suds while Souta is dragged along. After InuYasha is bombarded with random objects from an embarrassed and fuming Kagome, Souta takes him downstairs and blow dries his hair.
Episode 89- InuYasha and Houjo's check-up competition
Kagome is ill and staying in her time. A concerned InuYasha shows up with the materials to make a medicine his mother made for him when he was a child. Souta is excited to see him and expresses as much, but is openly grossed out by the raw materials in the medicine. He gulps down his disgust as Kagome drinks it, and freaks out when InuYasha tells Kagome exactly what is in it. (As does Kagome) The medicine does end up working though and Kagome is off to school the next day.
Episode 90- The despairing Souta's confession
This is Souta's episode, as in it's all about him. ^^ It picks up where our last episode left off (as in InuYasha is still in Kagome's time) and it starts off with Kagome taking InuYasha shopping for food to take back through the well. On their way back they notice Souta sulking outside a florists and wonder what is the matter. Kagome realizes that he's buying flowers for a little girl he likes named Hitomi who had walked by at that moment with her friends. At dinner Kagome points out that Souta is "lovesick" to Mama Higurashi… she thinks that's a "wonderful sickness to catch." Meanwhile Souta has decided to ask InuYasha (of all people) for help on the matter. Taking him outside, Souta proceeds to ask InuYasha a stream of embarrassing questions. "How did you tell Kagome you loved her?" "Oh so you haven't told her yet… you do love her right?" And other such things that make the Hanyou red as an apple. After telling InuYasha a bit about Hitomi, he asks him to help him "practice." By practicing Souta means "roleplaying" and Kagome walks in on them when Souta has just managed to say "I love you!" to InuYasha. (Practicing to do the same to Hitomi of course.)
Kagome is very freaked out by this, but bursts into laughter once she finds out what was really going on. Then, deciding that "older sister knows best, and InuYasha can't know the heart of a woman!" (To which IY points out--- "That's because you are a woman.") Kagome decides to take it onto herself to help Souta. The next morning she decks him out in a rather ridiculous little get-up. (Modeled as a joke after the outfit worn by the main character of "Detective Conan" which airs right after "InuYasha" on television in Japan.) After being cheered on by the entire family, Souta takes his bouquet of flowers and heads to school, only to come back with a look that clearly reads "I failed" later that day. Souta informs InuYasha and Kagome that he tried to tell Hitomi, but was stuttering so much that she walked away with the words "I don't like men who aren't sure of themselves." InuYasha and Kagome both keep up their attempts to get Souta to tell Hitomi his feelings, giving him advice that the pair definitely needs to listen to themselves. "Quit being so damn wishy-washy, just go out their and make her yours!" (Coming out of yes, InuYasha's mouth.) InuYasha then takes Souta outside and tells Kagome that "if he thinks he's strong, it will help him out." InuYasha tears down a tree with a "sankon tetsusou" of his claws, and Souta proceeds to imitate his attack. (Basically just flailing his hands, but it's cute.) Souta tells InuYasha he feels a "little bit stronger," but decides a bit later that InuYasha's training session most definitely did not help. Frustrated with they boy's indesiciveness InuYasha throws him out onto the front step and proclaims that he had better go tell her. Souta agrees to go out for another attempt and meets Hitomi at sunset on a playground. InuYasha and Kagome spy on them from the bushes (and get rather blush red in the face themselves after the events) as Souta tells Hitomi his feelings and asks her to go out with him. She accepts and the new couple embraces as the sun sets.
