Well everyone, how
bout some info about how the band came into being. We started off
actually a year and a half ago. The band was me (John), Baron, Will,
Adam and Harry. It actually started as just me Baron and Will as a
punk band, but we made the decision to try and go for ska. Well Baron
got himself a trombone and we got Adam to play the fish for us. We
struggled for about a month trying to find someone to play trumpet when
finally Adam met a tall lurking character by the name of Harry Skeen.
Eventually Will decided to drop out of the band for personal reasons and we
were left guitarless. We struggled for another 2 moths or so trying to
find a replacement but coming up empty handed. That was when Viskasity
broke up. Well the summer came around and each person went their own
direction.
It was at the beginning of the school year
that I met a young man by the name of Dane Akers. It turned out that
Dane was a guitar player. After many weeks of exhaustive training,
Dane finally learned how to play ska. Only one thing stood in our way:
Dane wasn't saved. It happened to be on a cool Saturday in November that
Dane and I attended a Baptist youth conference with our vocalist Rachel
Lawrenson and her youth group. Dane found the Lord that day and has
been on that path ever since. (Hallelujah)
A few months later, Baron and Adam Told me
about starting up a ska band again. The band consisted of:
John M.- vocals
Dane- guitar
Adam- fish
John G.- drums
Harry- trumpet
Baron- trombone
Our first practice was on a Saturday and went
over more than smoothly. We went to the Dream Center that night to
hang out and we met up with Jenny Hawk. John G. had recorded the
practice our at least parts of it on the 'ol handy cam. He let Jenny
and our friend Steph listen to the tape. They came to the Dream Center
that night ecstatic that there was gonna be a Punk-Ska band on the OBX.
We also found out that Jenny played the sax. Well one thing led to
another and Jenny entered as One Truth Freedom's new saxophone player. Well
we had a couple more practices and ran into a couple more problems. We felt that we were not progressing fast enough with John G. on the drums so we had a band meeting and voted him out of the band. Many other factors came into our decision also, but those will remain unspoken unless John wants us to do otherwise. I took over as the drummer and we were left without
a singer. It was about that time that we took into consideration
having a female voice for the band. Rachel Lawrenson was the top and
only candidate. She was iffy about it at first but we would not take
"no" for an answer. At our first practice after the changes, Will Mcmaster came to fill in for Dane. We thought that it would upgrade our music and make it more full if Will stayed so we asked him to. He too was kind of iffy about it.
Well as you know, Rachel and Will both decided to stay as the
vocalist & lead guitarist and here we are today. We don't know what kind of problems lie ahead and what kind of trials the band is going to go through, but we do know that if we follow God's will, then we can't go wrong.
Our purpose as a ministry to Jesus Christ is
to reach to the lost people of the world and to be a witness to our
generation. We believe that Christ is the only true freedom. We
represent the freedom of the One Truth. We believe that Christ is the
only way to heaven and that he is Love and reality. Jesus loves you
more than anything and he would rather go to Hell for you than to Heaven without
you. He died for your sins and mine. If you have any questions about
Him then please email us or pull one or all of us to the side at a show (or whenever you see us).
