Shahril being the only surviving original member of Ossuary started his drumming excercises jamming with a friend," I was jamming with a friend of mine who was playing bass, it was just the two of us. That was around 1990. My friend then introduced me to Bidi and Arafat, so I guess it all started from there."
Drumming wasn't what was in Shahril's mind when he started playing music. He was in his school military band, blowing one of the wind instruments." I was in the school band playing on the horn section. The problem was, the band's timekeeper was such a lousy drummer. He basically had an unbelievably weak sense of rythym. We ( in the band)
were getting pissed off with the guy, so much so that I initiated myself on the drums.I learned how to do it and eventually replaced him."
It is in Ossuary's early inception that Shahril honed in on his craft.
"Jamming with Arafat and Bidi taught me a lot on developing solid rythym groundwork. We used to practice almost everyday."
On why he still carries on with Ossuary,
"There is still so much for us as a band to learn and experience.People had come to us and ask why we still use the name Ossuary when there is only me left as the remaining original member.
The reason is back from when we started out, we had a vision and direction of what we want to accomplish. Although now we have a different line-up, the vision and direction as well as the spirit within the band still remain the same. The new members know where Ossuary come from and they keep that spirit within them so the name Ossuary will still carry on."
