Music is a big part of Jali's life. He started playing the bass at the age of 15.
Growing up in the rock era, he formed a rock band way back in 1987 with a dream that his band will be well-known. "The fruits of my tree might be metal, but dig my soil you'll see my roots are rock of the late 60s and 70s bands."
Throughout the late 80s Jali began to explore metal music. The loud, thrashy, intense speed riffing of metal began to take his preferrance. By then his rock band was history, but he still continued to pursue his dreams.
In late 1991, together with his tertiary mates Bloodbath was born.
" Bloodbath's musical genre was mainly death-thrash.We had problems with vocalists so we really don't have much of a chance to play gigs. But we enjoyed watching others."
Watching others he did. In 1993, by chance,he got to watch four guys who were already quite known in the scene. They called themselves Ossuary.
"I still remember watching them at the AMP Carnival at East Coast.I was so damn impressed and envious.I wished I was as good as them or be a part of them! I was determined to play alongside with them someday. Better still outshine them with my own band! I personally took that as a vision, not a dream."
The mid 90s saw changes in Bloodbath. With new line-up. Bloodbath morphed to Dethmute displaying a direction more akin to Sepultura/Fear Factory rifferama. In 1999, they were part of the Myx Metal Assault 1 and Tribute to Rusty Blade compilations. They then hit the studio again to record their debut album.
Dethmute began to be a familiar face at local gigs. That year Jali saw his vision turned to reality, Dethmute got to play alongside Ossuary!
But much to the dismay of many, Jali left the band after he performed with Dethmute for the last time on 7 May 2000.
"It was not easy for me to make that decision. Part of my life was gone, but I did managed to record two songs wiyh them."
It was in mid July that Jali got a phone call from Ajak."I was at work when Ajak called me asking for a favour.Ossuary actually needed my help to play with them on their upcoming KL gigs. Mind you, it was only 7 days away from the trip that we started practicing. We jammed for a grand total of three times for those gigs but I had fun with them! I really thought it would just end there.Nearly a week later, Shahril called me and gave me the rudest shock of my life. He offered me to join Ossuary!I couldn't believe it, call it luck but I'll say it's my fate. I'm just happy my dreams turned to reality."
