THE BIG PIE PROJECT

Many towns and cities in New Zealand have large fun objects in the middle of them, such as the giant Carrot in the middle of Ohakune, the giant fishes in Taupo and Gore, and the giant Dog and Sheep in Tirau. Indeed, Pleasant Point has recently proposed a giant Custard Square, and Waitara a giant Wallaby. All are icons of place and time, and I think its time Wairoa got a Big Pie!

So I've done some photoshop work, and come up with three options for a giant pie in the middle of Wairoa:

Pie With Fork. A giant pie, with a fork sticking out of it. There is a a bite "chunk" taken out of it. The proposed location is the roundabout in the center of town, though other locations could be considered if this might be a traffic hazard. People don't usually eat meat pies with a fork, but the fork is included to give it a postmodernist minimalist hint of the works of Claes Oldenberg and others. Check it out...

Pie Without Fork. Same as above, sans eating implement. A simpler version, the bite "chunk" might also not be included in this version, giving a full pie version. Check it out...

Pie Visitor Center. A completely different tack to the other two, the Pie Visitor Center would be similar to dog and sheep in Tirau, in this case in the shape of a pie. Ideally, the surface of the pie center would be classic kiwi corrugated iron. Check it out...
