PIE Officers and Committee Leaders
Meeting Notes
10-17-00

We met at Burger King to allow the small children not in school to play while we met. Wonderful idea! The kids loved it, the moms were free to talk...only problem was that it was very LOUD. We learned to read lips and repeat thing over and over, but it was a fun challenge! It also gave us a chance to eat lunch as we talked. And who can resist Burger King?

Library Plans -- Deana Schlauch reported that Ms Ellingson had secured a grant that would cover the cost of the library shelving that we had alotted money to. This frees up approximately $1800 that may be spent on library materials or a computer lab. It was voted on an and approved to re-dedicate this money to further library improvements such as this. We also agreed on November 18th as work party day, where parents and community would be invited to come and help to build the library shelves. Kurt Freeman will supervise the efforts.

Book Fair -- Mary Elmore reported on the upcoming Book Fair. Volunteers had been secured to man the Book Fair, thanks to Connie Severson. A new program this year asked kids to provide names and addresses of at least 7 friends and family. A completed book of 7 won a prize for this student (and siblings, so that families did not need to fill 2 or more booklets) For each booklet, we received a certain amount of credit towards our book profit. We agreed to attempt this.

Covered Play Area -- Deana distributed the letter to be delivered to the School Board tonight. This called for the board to supply the necessary information for this project.

Halloween Booth -- It was agreed that PIE should host a booth at the annual Halloween Party at the Convention Center. Diana Fulbright agreed to head this effort. A bean bag toss, owned already by PIE, would be presented, and toothbrushes might be secured from GH County Health Department as giveaways.

Playground Fund -- Sarah Coleman is working on how this money should be spent and make arrangements for purchase. Ideas were discussed, and suggestions from Ms B acknowledged.

Penny Drive -- Maryhelen Freeman discussed plans for the next Penny Playground Drive. Rules need to be discussed; one donation came in the form of a check and was counted towards a class total. Should we allow this? Or should donations be credited to the fund in general and not to an individual class?

Christmas Tree Auction / Craft Fair -- Dina Davis will be the Auction Chairman, arranging for the trees to be pickedup and delivered (by Freeman family), and working with teachers and local businesses to decorate and auction the trees. Auction will be at 2PM, with craft fair running 10-4 on Sat, Dec 2nd. Vonnie Hammack "volunteered" (thanks for being a good sport, Vonnie!) to head the silent auction, in which gift baskets would be assembled and auctioned off during the event. Teachers would be approached about having a class fill a basket.

New Fundraising Ideas -- Ms Ellingson had suggested a Bingo night, in which the gift baskets would be the prizes. The Bingo met with mixed reviews, as a few committee members had little interest in Bingo. It was decided that the gift baskets would be involved in the Silent Auction for Christmas, as they might be purchased for Christmas Gifts. Bingo would be discussed at a later date.
Christmas Store ideas were discussed, and Dina Davis has volunteered to take care of this event, as well. (Good thing her son is in school all day this year...she's had some time on her hands and is taking on many projects!) Jody Cadle offered to help with this. Dina has already looked into a couple of companies that offer ready-to-assemble programs.
Popcorn was discussed as a fundraiser for individual classes. The popcorn machine would be made available, and each class would be assigned a Friday to oversee this. Parents would be called on to help. Funds raised would be held by that class for field trips, class projects, etc. Daniela Werner will be the chairman of this project.

The meeting was adjourned and everyone left smiling and laughing, so it must have been successful...
