18 September 2001
President Dina Davis welcomed all
attendees, which included many new faces! We talked about some of
the things that we had accomplished the previous year, and the success that we shared as a group because of
the talents of our members. This year will prove to be even
better, based on the wonderful turn-out to this meeting!
Penny Playground Drive, originally scheduled for the week of 24-28 September,
was discussed in light of the current world situation following
the WTC Attacks. The school had let the children bring in funds
for the Red Cross the week prior, and perhaps this was ill
timing? Principal Ellingson had included this on the calendar for
the year, so everyone would be confused if we delayed it. Though
we received a grant for the major playground expenses, money is
still needed for the playground for hardware and groundwork in
the installation process. We also need two more basketball hoops
for the Fourth/Fifth playground. Mary Elmore made a motion to
continue with the penny drive, but donate the funds to the Red
Cross. This was seconded by Kristen Hieronymus, Sarah Coleman,
and Diana Fulbright, and voted for unanimously.
The dance for October 9th was our main focus this evening, as it
is approaching rapidly and we needed a volunteer to head the
project and a committee to help them. Scheduled time is
6:30-8:30PM on the 9th, and a second dance is scheduled for
Valentines Day. Cynamon Studebaker enthusiastically agreed to be
the chairman and the list was circulating to sign up a committee.
Mary Elmore agreed to talk with Cynamon about her previous
experience with the dance last year. Budget for these two dances
is $600.
Our budget was discussed, an overview of what we used the money
for. Teachers are given an allottment for parties, field trips,
and supplies, and we have allocated money for our own supplies,
school functions, and equipment to help the school. Other
activities are planned not as money makers, but for spirit or
involvement. A more detailed budget should be available by our
next meeting for approval.
Cash Back for Schools was lauded, as we won $2650 last year! Rachel Takagi
agreed to continue with the program, if someone would help her
deliver receipts. Chrissie Erickson readily agreed.
Thanks to Toni Park, the school is more prepared than ever for
emergencies! She was the head of a preparedness committee that
secured intercoms, a NOAA radio, and the school bus that is now
parked at the school for emergencies. Teachers are now asking for
used backpacks to put their emergency evacuation kits into.
Room Parents
were discussed, and in addition to being a support and resource
for the teacher, that this room parent or room parents be the key
contacts in an emergency phone tree. The phone tree was added to
sign up list to form a committee to address this ASAP.
Dina also asked for volunteers to help in the library, now
functional thanks to the donation of PIE! (Library shelves, computer, etc)
Michelle Mosley was introduced as the new volunteer coordinatior
for the school.
It's going to be a great year! Committee lists are now available, and a printed version including email and phone numbers is available by emailing Jody.
