Family Week

What a relief to have only 11 volunteers here this week. Two families have joined us and we are able to be quite flexible and creative with the volunteers

The father, mother, and sister of one of our long term volunteers, Grace Helms, have joined us. The parents are both attorneys in Chicago. The sister, Lily, is 12 years old and the boys have looked upon her as their new sister. Grave will be with us one more month and it is such a pleasure to allow her parents to see the tremendous work she has done. Letter for Local Library

A letter of commendation is being sent to the local library we have helped to establish here in Esperanza. Grace and Amy have worked hard to set up a reading program for children after school in the community. A former school principal who was here a few weeks ago got his local library to send the letter to the Mayor of Esperanza to thank and encourage him in this work.

New York Editor for Dale's New Book

Dale received news this week that a New York editor will do the final editing for the book Christ Mind, Buddha Heart to be released in June. Dale has written a book that links Buddhist theology with the words of Jesus. He shows how the Eight fold Way in Buddhism parallels the eight beatitudes of Jesus ads well as other key features of Buddhism. He also presents a case study of how Buddhism and Christianity influenced each other in 8th century China in a positive way as an example of what can happen in our time.

Lorna Kelly is the author of The Camel Knows the Way, a biography of her 20 years friendship with Mother Teresa, and was the first woman auctioneer of Suthobys. She presently is an editor in New York. She read the manuscript and said this explains how a Christian can also incorporate Buddhism into their life and not violate basic Christian belief. Release the Hero Within is averaging about 11 books a day at www.lulu.com/barhanna Books Relating to the Language of Jesus

Field report from Good Samaritan Orphanage, Dominican Republic

Beach Time

We took the younger children to the beach this week. It has been a long time since we have been on a field trip. So now with a small group of volunteers we are able to do a couple of fun things with the kids before they start back to school.

The older boys got to go to Fun City where they drove go carts forthe first time in their lives. They took to driving like ducks to water. They were racing around the track like they have been doing it for years.

Returning for three weeks on April 13th

Marta and I have confirmed our plane reservations for April 13. We will arrive in Portland at 11 pm. We are looking forward to our return to the States for a few weeks. We are anxious to visit our friends throughout Portland and Vancouver and give them a first hand report. Our home church is preparing to send a group in the summer. Dale is ready to join the men's Bible Study group again and thanks them for their many prayers.
