Chickenpox
We having been having a chickenpow outbreak at the orphanage. When our newest orphan arrived about 6 weeks ago, he was in the late states of chickenpox. The doctor said it was not contagious. We we have had several chilren since then get the pox. We isolate the boys from the volunteers for a few days and that usually takes care of it.
New Cistern
Marta is proud of her new cistern. It is about 12x12x12. Runoff water from the kitchens and other graywater will easily be handled by this system. Before we had a problem with water and odors from excess runoff. This last week with 100 volunteers put too much pressure on the old system. .

Field report from Good Samaritan Orphanage, Dominican Republic
Our first orchid we have grown in the DR
Volunteers from Princeton and North Carolina
We have a small group this week on Spring break. They are going to a local school where they teach English and teaching learning labs to the orphans.
Because this week is carnavel week in Esperanza, school will be out on Wednesday and not resume until two weeks from now. Volunteers are designing sport activities and a sport camp for the orphans and neighborhood kids.
Carnavel is a celebration of Lent, national independence, and generally an excuse to have a party for a month. Children will have a parade on Thursday through town. The city square is filled with booths and carnavel items for sale.
