New Orphan Brothers

Two brothers have arrived and they both have the same name, although spelled differently. One is named Bryan and the other Brian. They come from desperate economic circumstances. The mother has gotten work in the Free Zone sewing Levi jeans. During the day she leaves her boys her with the orphans.

While we are not a daycare facility, it became obvious that the children would be abandoned unless we provided a place. The children have the best of both worlds. They have a place a night with their mother. During the day they go to school and learn in the learning labs with our orphans. They have never been to school before so they have a lot of new skills to develop such as standing in line, sitting in chairs properly, following directions.

Visit from Ridgefield We are so grateful for two our our friends who came from Ridgefield to visit us. Marta showed Sharon Haynes and her daughter Tabitha a wonderful time last week. They played with the kids (but not long enough) and distributed toys and items for the children. Thanks for coming and seeing why our hearts are made rich everyday by these children.

Field report from Good Samaritan Orphanage, Dominican Republic

Volunteers from Pepperdine

We have a group of 26 volunteers this week from California. They are from Pepperdine and this is part of their education.

We are sending six teaching teams into the local primary school. They are teaching english and are already returning with stories of surprise and delight. They are shocked at how poor are the schools. Teachers do not even have chalk. Children do not have pencils and paper unless we supply them.

Marta Busy with Hammer

Marta is busy with her hammer and new powerdrill. She is building a room and repairing structures to get ready for 100 volunteers arriving next Saturday. She has worked for weeks to get more beds made and buy all the things we will need for a group this large.
