National Science Conference Honors Orphanage
The orphans of El Buen Samaritano have been participating in a program to build the first comprehensive scientific database for insects in the Dominican Republic. It has been a dream of Dr. Brian Ferrel of Harvard University to inspire youth of the Dominican Republic to participate in World Class Science. The orphans of Good Samaritan Orphanage have pioneered this work and have received an invitation to attend a conference in the captital of Santa Domingo where their work will be featured in a presentation by the Harvard professor. The President of the Dominican Republic, His Honor, Presidente Leonel Fernandez, has been invited to attend. A press conference is presently being arranged by the American Embassy in the Dominican Republic to highlight this Dominican and American cooperation. Three boys of the orphanage have been selected to meet with government officials and scientists who will honor their work. Our program focuses on releasing the hero within each child. Andres Teneo, Alex Rodriguiz, and Marcos Rodriguiz will be featured in a multimedia presentation as examples children who excel in science and have contributed to the science of their nation. On January 28th at Hotel Lina in the capital they will receive commendation and thanks from the leaders in the field of science.

Volunteers Reach out to the Community Batay Liberdad is an agricultural suburb on the edge of Esperanza. Recently it was visited by a retired school principle from Iowa, Jerry Parks, who has volunteered for one week at the orphanage. The school had no supplies, no paper, and not even chalf for the teach. The one room school has 104 students who shuttle through the school each day. Volunteers returned with supplies for the school and they were presented to the school directora by Jerry Parks. The children and teachers were very grateful and expressed their apprieciation of the work of Orphanage Outreach in the community. Below Carmen from MCC church in Atlanta is sharing a moment of joy with the children of Batay Liberdad.
Special Note of Thanks This week we honor Scott Hanson of Ridgefield, Washington, who has followed our work in the Dominican Republic. We so appreciate his desire to let us know how much wants to help this wonderful work here. Our reward is in his acknowledgement for which we are deeply grateful. Please pray for his family and loved ones as we know he prays for us. |
