Frequently Asked Questions Please note: this site is best viewed with Internet Explorer, which can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx
1.
How much do your programs cost?
We have a multiple variety of tuition options, but the most common
option taken is $109.00 per month for unlimited training throughout. This
applies to almost all of our basic programs (Zumba and Tai
Chi Chuan have different costs; please
contact us for information on these). There are also pay-per-class
rates which vary based on the program. CFMAA does NOT UTILIZE
CONTRACTS: the longest you will pay for in advance will
be one month, at most.
2.
What is your class schedule for
adults?
We have weekday afternoon, evening, and late night classes for
adults. We also have Saturday morning classes for all ages. The best way
to view these times is to check our
schedule page.
3.
What is your class schedule for
kids?
We have weekday after school transportation as well as evening
classes for kids. We also offer specialty classes for preschoolers and
teenagers, as well as Saturday morning classes for all ages. The best
way to view these times is to check our
schedule page.
4.
What is the focus of the art you
teach?
Self-Defense and Personal Development. We do not promote overly
impractical, traditional styles of teaching; nor do we promote
competitive fighting tournaments. Neither truly serves the purpose of
street oriented self defense, or maximum personal development. We are
a mixed martial arts school in that we utilize several styles to give
our students the most complete, well-rounded martial arts education
possible. We are a flexible school and our instructors strive to
continually learn more about and update our knowledge of the martial
arts so that we can continue to give our students exactly what they need
to learn.
5.
Why should I train with you and
not elsewhere?
As stated before, we are truly unique in being neither overly
traditional nor overly sport-oriented. Most schools fit into one of the
two previous categories. Martial arts can offer self control, self
discipline, healthy activity for a lifetime, a feeling of empowerment
and confidence, and a sense of community. Not every martial arts school
will strive to give you all of these goals; CFMAA does.
6.
Do you have any openings?
Our intro classes are done by appointment and there is of course a
daily limit. Generally, however, our group classes will always have
openings for new students. We have a very large and diverse group of
instructors, allowing large classes without causing a lost in the
crowd scenario for new students. For intro appointments, please
contact us.
7.
How long does it take to get a
black belt?
As long as it takes! We are a school where each individual is
tested for their own personal capabilities. For some people it will take
longer to get a black belt than others, and there is no set times
between belt promotions; at best, we can occasionally estimate. But
rather than pay for a black belt, signing a three-year contract and
receiving one at the end whether you really are ready for it or not,
wouldnt you rather EARN it?
8.
Can I earn a black belt? Everyone can attain a black belt with the proper dedication and determination, although not all will reach black belt at the same time. Some martial arts schools deem that not every student will reach black belt; this is because they are holding the belt to be a sign of skill that is based off of others. When we see a person has reached his or her personal capacity to be a black belt, can apply what they have learned in class in the appropriate, realistic training scenarios, then they are eligible to test for their black belt.
9.
Do children earn black belts? Our children programs and adult classes are taught separately for a reason- the programs are different. Since we are a school based off of practical self defense, we must look at the differences in dangers faced by children and adults, therefore creating the need for specially tailored programs. The color belt system is the same for both groups; however, for children under the age of 14, they receive a Junior black belt. The testings for both adult and child black belt candidates are rigorous, but again different. When a child who is a Junior Black Belt has a.) reached the minimum age of 14 and b.) meets the necessary body fitness, right mindset, and technical skill, they may test for an adult black belt.
10.
Do you require sparring?
We do not require ring-style or tournament-style fighting. We do,
however, recognize that only through rigorous training and increasingly
realistic scenarios can our students progress appropriately and learn
realistic self-defense. At yellow belt, our students begin training with
partners (not opponents, as is stressed in class) in controlled
settings. As one progresses through the ranks, the training will become
more intense- however, never will it be outright dangerous. Of course,
the amount and intensity of such training is based off of age and the
associated practicality of such training.
11.
Do you offer a trial program?
We do. Our intro special is two intro classes for $25.00, which
includes a FREE uniform. The first intro class is by appointment, so
that we can offer a private or semi-private beginners class, building a
solid foundation. Occasionally we offer special trial programs
throughout a month; please call 407-767-5500 to inquire about any such
programs that might be running.
