Chris Jericho Profile Con't:

So now we move to the World Wrestling Federation.  After months of speculated rumors all over the internet, Chris Jericho showed his face to the entire world on a blistery August night at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois in 1999.  Welcome to Raw is Jericho!!!- Those were first words to spill out of his mouth after perhaps one of the most spectacular entrances in WWF history.  Indeed Raw was Jericho as he disposed of all opponents that stood in his way for the first few months.  This includes Ken Shamrock who after losing to Jericho in a Lions Den match at SummerSlam 99 disappeared from federation television.

After the discarding of Shamrock, the now known Y2J feuded extensively over the Intercontinental Championship for approximately a year and a half with the likes of Hardcore Holly, Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, Kurt Angle, and most notably Chris Benoit.  Who could forget the two fall triple threat match at Wrestlemania 16 for the European and IC championships between the two Chriss and titleholder of both belts, Kurt Angle?  Or how about the ladder match between Jericho and Benoit at the 2001 Royal Rumble for the IC strap?  Chris and Chris brought out the best in one another and behind the ferocity that both men expressed inside the squared circle was a respect that each felt deeply.  So finally after seeing the light at around Wrestlemania X-Seven the two men sprouted a partnership that eventually led them to the WWF Tag Team Titles over two of the biggest stars of all in Steve Austin and Triple H.  Note that this was the match in which Triple H suffered his horrific quadriceps injury that kept him out of action for nearly eight months.

But Tag Team gold wasnt enough for Y2J because he set his sights on the richest prize in the game the WWF Championship.  Jericho had already competed for the title on a few occasions with Triple H but he was not able to sustain a lasting feud.  So at last it was time for Y2J to get his shot at the federation title at the 2001 King of the Ring were he competed against his fellow countryman Benoit and titleholder Stone Cold Steve Austin.  Austin eventually won the match but that match will be synonymous for the debut of  Booker T as well as the true beginning of the ECW & WCW invasion angle.

This loss for Jericho sowed the seeds that would later end his current run as a face in the WWF.  Chris was becoming known as a second-tier star, a midcarder, or even the guy who cant win the big one. Jericho grew weary of this and finally on October 21, 2001 in St. Louis, Missouri at No Mercy, Chris Jericho proved the doubters wrong by defeating perhaps the biggest star of them all in The Rock for the WCW title.  Although that was a huge accomplishment for Chris, nothing could compare to what he would do two months later at WWF Vengeance.  Chris became the first ever undisputed heavyweight champion of the world by defeating The Rock and Steve Austin in a four man elimination tournament.

Currently Jericho calls himself a living legend much to the chagrin of many of his fellow superstars.  But Y2J can back up that talk with his arsenal of moves most notably the Walls of Jericho and the Lionsault.  And if you still dont take this flamboyant star seriously, well just take a look at his resume.
