The Playoffs Are Now Underway!
Huskies Lose to Neuqua Valley!
On Monday February 27, the OPRF Hockey Club faced off in a state playoff game against the Neuqua Valley Wildcats, the #2 ranked team in the state. The Wildcats finished their Metro West season with a perfect 20-0-0 record, including two wins over the Huskies. Coming off a 5-4 victory over Prairie Ridge in their opening playoff game, the Huskies were hoping for a different outcome this time. However, Neuqua Valley took control of the game from the start and skated to a convincing 10-2 win.
Kenny Javor and Mike Beard scored the Huskies goals, with Beard picking up an assist on Javors goal and Mike Slovak assisting on Beards goal. Senior Bob Grayson played his final game in goal for the Huskies and faced 50 Wildcat shots. In addition to Grayson, Javor, and Beard, the Huskies will lose graduating seniors Matt McDonnell, Jim Minaghan, Zach Smith, and Will Young.
The Huskies would like to recognize several players for their accomplishments this season. Andy Dirgo was the Huskies lone representative on the Metro West All-Conference Team. Bob Grayson, Matt McDonnell, Brett Newman, and Mike Slovak were selected as Metro West All Stars. Grayson and McDonnell were invited to try out for the Illinois High School Showcase team. Grayson also received the Metro West Presidents award, given to a player who has overcome a physical challenge to play hockey. Bob was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 2, but hasnt let that deter him from a 4-year varsity career as the Huskies goalie.
