JV SQUAD COMPLETES SEASON!
The Huskie JV squad finished its 2005 - 2006 season by playing in the first round of the State playoffs. Against a higher-ranked Hersey team, the locals fell 5 - 3.
Things looked good early in the match. After Hersey scored first, the OPRF team scored three unanswered goals, with all three lines finding the net.
Cameron Murphy started things off with a goal off a scramble, with Luke Javor and John Nevins earning assists for a 1 - 1 tie. Later in the first period, the Huskies scored two short-handed goals within a 40- second span. Sean Marks tallied unassisted, and shortly thereafter Mike Locasto followed suit. The three goals staked OPRF to a 3 - 1 lead after the first frame.
But Hersey regrouped and scored four goals in the second period for a 5 - 3 lead which held up throughout the game. The entire period was played in front of JV goalie Evan McCall, as the team was unable to clear the puck from the defensive zone. All told, shots on goal were Hersey 49, OPRF 25. Hersey thus advanced to play New Trier in the second round in early March.
Previously, the JVs finished play for the Founders Cup in the MetroWest League. Games against six other teams were required to advance, but the locals ended up with a 2 - 4 playoff record, beating Waubonsie Valley and the Naperville Central JV2 team.
Thanks to all the loyal rooters who came out to cheer the team. We'll see you all at the April 9 banquet.
