More About Pat Claus

Hi and welcome to the page that will give you a more in-depth picture of my personal image. I am just your normal everyday people-type. I'm not poor, but I wouldn't really consider myself as your average middle class type either.

I have been married 21 wonderful years to my wife Patti and the story of how our lives came together is quite a unique one.
I hurt my lower back lifting furniture on Thanksgiving Eve, 1981. On Thanksgiving day I ended up in traction in the hospital where Patti worked as a lab tech. She was assigned to draw all of my blood test that day and when she arrived to do so, it was love at first sight for me and I knew this because as the old saying goes, 'I heard bells ringing'.

As she recorded information from my hospital ID bracelet, she was being courteous with conversation, and as she was noting the information on my wristband, she ask, ""So your name is James?"" I said yes, but everyone calls me Pat, she said ""Oh, my name is Patti!"" Well, this was the second time I 'heard the bells'. Then she asked, ""Your birthday is June 1st, 1960?"" and I said yes. She said ""How funny, my birthday is June 2nd, 1960!"" Wow, by this time those bells were really clanging.

From then own I kept pursuing her until I finally won-over her heart. Not only were we just one day apart in age, but we got married on May 31st, the day before our birthdays. So every Thanksgiving I also thank the Lord for giving her to me. We have a son, James, Jr. He is 19 and quite the 'chip off the ol' block'. You can learn more about Patti and James here at

I just take life as it comes, day by day. I never make promises I can't keep because fate chooses its own path. I never have been afraid of dying, only of the particular way I might die. When I had my accident (Pat Claus in Person), I had two past-life experiences that were beyond belief. I am here today to talk about my experiences for a particular reason. I am presently and have been for the past several years, writing a book about those experiences and how my family and I are coping with life as it is now. The name of my book is ""A Leap of Faith-Eyes Wide Open"" hoping to get it published in the near future!

I started writing poems years ago when I was a truck driver. Because of the extreme cross-country travel, beautiful countryside and all the different cultures of people made poetry a must for me. Instead of relying just on pictures or memory along about the different experiences I encountered, it just came natural to express my feelings on paper. I was far from ever wanting to be a poet, I just loved putting the experiences in rhymes. I would fill tablet after tablet full of different poems, bring them home for my wife to read, and then just discard them and start another tablet. I did this for years before my wife convinced me to start saving them at least as conversation pieces. I entered all D.A.R.E programs with my son as his partner during his elementary school years. I wrote a couple of poems for that program as well. See them at Pats Poems.

Before my accident, my favorite past time was playing golf. I had a set of clubs for home use, and carried a set with me on my truck in case I was laid-over somewhere or had a day's wait to load or unload, I could get a quick round of golf in.
I'm still learning to master the game, only from a wheelchair now. One of my biggest goals is to once again compete in tournaments for the disabled, and as my salute to children, any money that I could win from these tournaments would go to my Operation Pat Claus fund. My favorite Pro player is Fred Couples. He's my hero! Another dream of mine is to one day attend a professional tournament to see Freddie play in person. Dreams 'DO' indeed come true!

Please continue your tour of my web site and please feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you think of it!!
