| The Mother of Us All/ Review A whimsical and glorious pageant that captures defining moments in American history, The Mother of Us All chronicles suffragette Susan B. Anthonys life, career and struggle for womens political rights. Populated by real and imagined characters, the opera stitches a musical quilt complete with historical figures like John Quincy Adams, Ulysses S. Grant and Daniel Webster. With a libretto by Gertrude Stein and music by Virgil Thomson, this opera is quintessentially American in the vein of Carlisle Floyd, Robert Frost and Aaron Copland. CAST Susan B.
