| As Enzo, Marcello Giordani nearly brought the house down at the end of Cielo e mar, having sung with an open-throated, even, ringing tenor. As Laura, the Bulgarian mezzo Mariana Pentcheva had too much vibrato for my liking but the Act II duet with Gioconda was riveting. Jill Grove sang beautifully as La Cieca, and the big voices of Eric Halfvarson as Alvise and Alexandru Agache as Barnaba lent a growling sense of menace to the entire performance./ La Gioconda-Review |
| Another singer who wooed us was Jill Grove, as Preziosilla. A Gypsie fortune-teller-slash-prostitute, Preziosilla came on stage in a full Matrix garb, outfitted like Carrie-Anne Moss's Trinity. She sang her part gamely, confidently and without the affectation of a prima donna./ Review-Forza Of the supporting roles, Jill Grove was an outstanding Preziosilla, enlivening scenes which frequently seem too long in the opera house. Vocally varied, she phrased naturally without distorting the rhythm, which is so necessary in that part./ Review |
