    RELIGION, PHILOSOPHY

Major Religions of the World, by Lloyd Ridgeon
Good Reference Book of World Religions
As its name suggests, this book gives an overview of major world religions explaining their history,
doctrine, evolution as well as their current situation. It also gives a description of ancient religions
and the development of the concept of deity across the ages. Good book, however slightly
               academic.

The Story of God, by Robert Winston
Excellent Book Analyzing Major Religions & Philosophies of Life
As soon as you start reading this book you get hooked. It is the result of research done for the
BBC which was the basis of a TV program. Winston is a scientist and a firm believer in God. His
ability to objectively analyze different religions, points of view as well as philosophies based on
atheism makes this book very interesting to read. Moreover, his writing style enables him to channel
a large amount of information without falling in the pitfall of turning the book into a dry academic
               publication.

Les Mysterieux Druzes du Mont-Liban, by Paul-Jacques Callebaut
Fine Book on the Druze Community's Past & Present with Pictures
Callebaut offers here a book of high quality. He 'lived' with the Druze of Mount Lebanon, observing
their way of life and mingling with them. What adds to the quality of the book is the number of
illustrative photos taken, where these mysterious people become less enigmatic. In addition
history & religious doctrine are discussed and clearly explained to the limit of secrecy. In brief, a
well-rounded book that should be read by anyone interested in the subject.

L' Evangile: Saint Luc, (Librio)
The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke
One of the 3 Synoptic Gospels of the New Testament. It shares the same stories with the Gospels
of Saints Mathew and Mark often using the same words. The 4th Gospel, that of St. John has a
different style and approach. The term synoptic means that the 3 Gospels can be viewed side by
side in parallel columns. The longest of the 4 Gospels tells the story of Lord Jesus, his life, death
                and resurrection.

Le Coran, (Librio)
               The Holy Quran
This book contains excerpts from the Holy Quran as published by Librio editions. The Holy Book
is the literal word of God which was revealed to Holy Prophet Muhammad for a period of 23 years,
that is until his death. It provides Muslims with a complete detailed way of life and is considered
the most beautiful  book  in  Arabic  as  no  human  could  write  something  as  meaningful and
                 linguistly distinctive.

The Druze Faith, by Sami Nasib Makarem
A Neatly Written Introduction to the Druze Doctrine
Upon the demand of the Sheikh al Akl (Druze spirtual leader), Makarem, a specialist of the Druze
Unitarian religion wrote this book to initiate young Druze people to their somewhat secretive
doctrine. It does not reveal everything since the whole truth is only reserved to a limited few who
have consecrated their whole lives to religion. Nevertheless, after reading this book, one can
form an adequate idea about Druzism, abolishing the misconceptions spread in society.

L' Evangile selon la Science, by Piergiorgio Odifreddi
An Attempt to Explain Religion through Science
Odifreddi tries to link science to religion, an issue which has been attempted by many before him
with little success. He uses many tools and scientific means and analogies. I liked the book,
especially the beginning which addresses history of religions and the effect of the environment
on them, but frankly I do not believe that the conclusions i.e. the relation between science and
                religion are convincing.
