Times Square

Excerpt from the "Rumors" program, November 2000:

Zach Linder - Man About Town has been in love with acting since the age of ten. Years later, Zach has many theater accomplishments including two CDs recorded for Music Theater International's "Broadway Junior" project. Zach made his directing debut with a much-anticipated production of Noises Off! in the winter of 1999. During summers, Zach attends French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts. There he has appeared in numerous productions such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and an ensemble project about teenage archetypes called Collaborative Identity. Enjoy the show!

FRENCH WOODS FESTIVAL 2001
Well here it is! The long-awaited FWF 2001 update page. For those that don't know me, French Woods is a place that I love, and return to every summer. 4 summers so far, it's where I get most of my theater education and experience. This summer was no exception. It was a successful summer to say the least. I participated in multiple shows, many of which I will display further down this page.

This photo is from my first show of the summer, "Sweet Charity". I took on two roles, Vittorio Vidal (international moviestar) and Herman (fun-loving pimp). I had so much fun working on "Sweet Charity" for the first 3 weeks of the summer. Lauryn Ciardullo, Max Jenkins, Dina Goldstone, Ashley Kronen, Michelle Hamilton, and of course Remy, were all so much fun to work with on this.

This photo is taken from what I feel is the best show I have ever been a part of. I played Harry Dalton, the stable owner, in "Equus". Written by Peter Shaffer ("Amadeus"), this play is disturbing and incredibly dramatic. The show revolves around a psychiatrist, Martin Dysart, investigating the savage blinding of six horses with a metal spike in a stable in Hampshire, England. The atrocity was committed by an unassuming seventeen-year-old stable boy named Alan Strang, the only son of an opinionated but inwardly-timid father and a genteel, religious mother. As Dysart exposes the truths behind the boy's demons, he finds himself face-to-face with his own. The finale of Act I is Alan riding the horse naked, which is the equivalent of sex to him. Performed in the Black Box Theater, "Equus" was an experience not to be missed. I worked on this show for 4 weeks with 7 other cast members which I must take the time to thank now. Andrew Fixell, Dave Hurwitz, Hale Appleman, Ashley Berman, Lauren Lane Kwederis, Heather Meager, and Sami Promisloff..you all rock!

Playing Annas was one of the most challenging vocal performances I've had. "Jesus Christ Superstar" is a rock opera, as I'm sure many of you know, and Annas' high voice must contrast with Caiaphas' low voice. Because of the unique nature of the show, it was the most fun I had all summer on stage.

Every year French Woods holds Sing, a sort of theater color war with Boys vs. Girls. Assigned people stay up all night to create a march, cheer, dance, alma mater, plaque, and comedy skit. The skit always ends up being a highlight. The photo above is from the Boys Skit, "Ron Takes On The World". Written by Josh Gelb, Joey Hendel, Dave Hurwitz, Gabe Millman, and myself, the skit featured many songs including the showstopping "Strip For Your Supper".

Banquet is an end-of-summer meal which culminates the French Woods year. You may notice I have two neckties on. The reason being I couldn't decide, so I figured I'd wear both.
