Only on a sunday is an online chess team which uses Gameknot to play their matches. Gameknot is a chess site where you can play other people all over the world in chess matches with time limits for each move. This means each player has a set time limit (usually 3 days) to make each move and games are played until checkmate, stalemate, a draw offer is accepted or someone times out (fails to make their move in the set time limit) To find out more about gameknot, use the link on the left side menu bar.
Only on a sunday was formed by my brother, Lewis (red_devil7) who is the captain of the team and I joined straight after as the first member. Since then we have established a strong membership base by means of recruiting people from gameknot itself and also an online football management game called Sundayleague that we both play. Sundayleague not only provides a great game to play each day but also a forum where most of the members talk about games between themselves. Also oldhamer, another long serving member of the team sets up tournaments and leagues between the players on SundayLeague and has also set up a website dedicated to matches between Sundayleague players here. Gameknot uses the ELO rating system which is basically a rating of how good you are at chess. An average strength chess player usually has a rating around 1500, a strong player around 2000 and the grandmasters usually have ratings of around 2500. Only on a sunday doesnt have a policy saying you have to be so good to get into our team. All team games played will be games played with people with a similiar rating to your own so usually the team games are quite evenly matched. We have a wide selection of players who have ratings ranging from around 1000 to 1850 at the moment so even if you dont think your that good at chess and you would like to get better then you'd still be welcome in our team.
