What books mean to The Online Islamic Library

There are many obstacles to learning.

Man makes many excuses in their path to gain knowledge. First he must identify a need, then he must overcome a lack of resources. When he finds himself with the means to learn and teach, he must do both with patience and perseverance, banishing laziness and fatigue along the way.

Our books are the milestones of our journey, precious gems marking out the meandering roads that we walk along. They are witness to our transition from being hopeless to hopeful, from being lost to being guided and from being students to teachers. These books will also bear witness, either for or against us on the day of judgement.

When was the last time your read that book?

With the exception of a few reference books that are used frequently, we believe that most books never get read twice. It is therefore far better for you to give that book away and let someone else benefit from it. If youre fearful of losing the knowledge you took such pains to acquire in the first place, you could:

  • Take notes on the book.

This is common practice in colleges and universities, we cant keep every useful book we ever read.

  • Implement the knowledge

What better way to preserve that knowledge forever. Repeat it to yourself, tell everyone you know, live by it and encourage others to live by it.

And then set that knowledge FREE!

"For those who give in Charity, men and women, and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan, it shall be increased manifold (to their credit), and they shall have (besides) a liberal reward." [ Quran: Sura 5, Verse 18]

Now that were on the same page, you may be asking yourself,

Why donate books and not money?

The answer is simple. Not only do people benefit from a fountain of resources (i.e. used Islamic books), but also ask yourself, even if we gave people money, does everyone have access to a local Islamic bookshop?

Accessing Islamic books/tapes is a huge obstacle for lots of people, in particular new (or newly practising) Muslims. Bookshops are wonderful for those who can reach them, but a global library that brings books to your door removes one barrier in the quest for knowledge.

Why should donators cover postage and packaging costs?

Asking donators to cover the cost of postage and packaging is the icing on the cake for all concerned.

  • Donators are giving a true gift and are asking for nothing in return but Allahs reward, inshallah.

  • Library users have one less obstacle in their path to gaining knowledge; problems of accessing and affording books will be a thing of the past.

We value your donation and users must re-list your book (unless they can't cover postage and packaging costs), thereby creating a continuous cycle of giving.

Does the site make money from book donations?

The site also supports people buying their own Islamic books and tapes, and there is a recommendations section to encourage people to get into reading. The intention is not to take money away from publishers and authors as these books are not being copied in any form. It is simply passing one book on to another keen reader. Hopefully they will then go on to read more books by the author, inshallah (God-willing). This is not a money making site. No money is made out of the lending of books and any money made through future planned advertising will go to good causes.

Remember, donators can be receivers too!
