Orchestra Student

Introduction

Welcome to Orchestra at Deep Creek Middle School. The String Program in Chesapeake begins in the fifth grade where students may choose to study the violin, the viola, or the cello. In the middle school Orchestra students may continue with their chosen string instrument. Orchestra students also have the opportunity to switch to the string bass. Students in the Orchestra perform at school concerts, assemblies, District IV Orchestra Festival, and have the opportunity to audition for All-City Orchestra and Jr. Regional Orchestra.

Grading Policies

Orchestra students earn their grades based on the following:

Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade Orchestra
Performance (Playing Tests) 40%
Daily Participation 20%
Practice Sheets 20%
Written Work 20%

Concert Attire

All concerts (unless otherwise stated) will require the following uniform:


Ladies Long Black Skirt or Black Dress Pants
White Blouse
Dress Shoes

Gentlemen Black Pants
White Shirt with collar
Black Bow Tie and Cummerbund
