DUNKEY
About a 2001 Brown Mule Gelding
             Donkey Sire X Pony Dam
Dunkey gets some pettin' not too sure about humans yet. In his winter woolies a soft tan, summer pj's are a dark deep brown, almost black.
We rescued Dunkey from an auction house in February of 2005. He was terrified of people. He escaped his handler at the auction grounds and roamed the city streets for 3 days trailing an 8 foot lead rope and escaping through fences and dodging police cars and the Highway Patrol. "We chased our ass for 3 days" and hurt from laughing so hard, after we got him safely home!! His dam was a pony because he never sought out donkeys to hang with, always looked for horses and passed the donkeys by. Dunkey shed out his winter woolies and underneath all that fuzz was scarring, he had been abused terribly. He will let us approach him when he is cornered, but Purina Apple Waffers and bucketfulls of patience, and tincture of time, has him comming almost
all the way up to us now.
Dunkey is the self appointed guard of the herd. He will chase any uninvited animals from the pasture. He will sound the alarm when a stranger approaches and will attack without any hesitation, even strange dogs that are bigger than he is.
Our little brown mule........I thought I would never own one, and I have come to appreciate their intelligence
and dry sense of humor!!
The Whole Herd
Dunkey happy with his job in his herd.
