Born in 1990 at Mustard Seed Farm in Pittstown, NJ, Persevera (Vera) had a very brief and
uninspiring career as a pacer, only winning 1 race. She set her lifetime mark of 2:03.1
as a 2 year old and had her last start at Hazel Park in Michigan in 1993. She was used as a
broodmare with similarly dismal results. After abandoning two foals her owners put her out to
pasture for several years. She was shipped to Pennsylvania in 2000 for a month of training
prior to adoption. The adoption fell through, and she was adopted by her trainer and renamed
Banshee. She readily accepted training, and soon showed great promise as a jumper. However, on February 15, 2001 she severely injured her leg in the pasture. The diagnosis from a veterinarian was unclear, and ranged from an abcess to a bowed tendon to a broken coffin bone. She moved to a new barn on April 1 and slowly recuperated from her mysterious lameness. She returned to training with no effects from the injury, and was going extremely well under saddle until a horrible colic which twisted her gut on Wednesday, August 7, 2002. She is currently recovering from emergency surgury and complications from surgury. |
