Robert-Houdin : The Father of Modern Conjuring

Known as "The father of modern conjuring", Robert-Houdin was born with the name Jean
Eugené in 1805. He was a magician like no other. He had a way of knowing complicated
mechanics and clock work which helped him in his magic career. He brought magic into
upper-class. Fancy, rich people came to watch his shows. He did not dress up in any
costume or clown outfit but a rather plain suit. His way of magic was like no other and
practically changed history. A French magician, who has accomplished the first bullet catch, was named Robert-Houdin. One day in the 1850s, Robert Houdin went to North Africa. He met a group of Muslim miracle men called the Marabout, who were going to drive out the local natives in a revolt. Houdin performed many great tricks in front of the Marabout. Suddenly, the chief challenged Houdin to a duel. The man claimed he wasn't feeling good right now so he said make the duel to 8:00PM. When it was finally time for
the duel, Houdini told the chief to shoot first. Then they began to move 15 ft apart.
After they were far away from each other, the chief asked if Houdin was ready, and
then he shot. Houdin fell to the floor and there he laid with the bullet in his mouth.
The Marabout were amazed by what this sorcerer had just done. They "couldn't
believe their eyes". Then, Houdin said it was his turn to shoot. The chief began
to shiver. He was scared to die, but instead, Houdin shot at the wall behind the
chief. Amazingly, blood started to drip out of the hole. A local man tasted it and
proved that it was real. The Marabout were amazed. They were persuaded to
think that Houdini had "special powers" beyond the ones they possessed. Finally,
the Marabout kneeled down and hailed the sorcerer. This magician was one of the greatest magicians of all time. Harry Houdini took his name after Robert-Houdin. Robert-Houdin inspired many people to make bullet catches. Such as, Penn and Teller, and Herrmann the Great. Herrmann the Great let a bunch of soldiers fire at him and he caught all their bullets. Robert-Houdin exited the world as one of the greatest magicians of all time in 1871. He was a magician for 11 years.
Here's some tricks that Robert-Houdin performed
  • Had a somebody blind-folded and say out loud what he was holding
  • Put a Marabout into a trance
  • Caught a bullet in his mouth

Ehrich Weiss: Master Escape Artist

Ehrich Weiss, a master escape artist is considered the greatest magician who ever lived.
Although not many people know him by this name, many people know him as the great
Harry Houdini. A master of escaping chains, handcuffs, and straitjackets, Houdini was
also a magician. He, too changed magic by making chain and cuff escapes more popular
and exciting. Known also as "The King of Cards", Houdini got his first name from the English nickname Harry (pronounced Ehrich). Under the mistaken impression that adding an "I" in French meant "like", Harry made his last name Houdini because his hero was Robert-Houdini. Him and his friend became "The Houdini Brothers" but broke up later on. Houdini married a woman named Bess who would be part of his act. Many people do not know that he didn't start out his magic career successfully. It took him years to get publicity and fame. At one point of his life he was so desperate for money he made a book early on revealing how to escape from chains and other magic secrets called "Magic Made Easy". He got some profit from this but it wasn't too big. But after doing one show, Houdini couldn't get his assistant, Bess, out or a locked box. She fainted and the press was all over the story. This kind of publicity helped Harry sell tickets to his next shows. Soon his show was sold out. From there on, he performed, and fascinated audiences around the world. He even outperformed his imitators making them look like fools in the name of Houdini. One day after a show, Houdini was getting a portrait done of him. A couple of college students were in his room interviewing him. One student asked him about his claim that he could take a blow to the stomach no matter who it is and feel no pain. Houdini said yes and the student asked if he could take a punch to his stomach. Houdini not fully paying attention and so he agreed to do so. The student took three punches and was impressed at Houdini. After that day, Harry felt sick and dizzy. He had fevers and performed even when he had a high temperature. He didn't want to go to the doctor but he finally went after passing out on stage. His doctor told him that it was his
appendix that was ruptured. Houdini died shortly after on October 31, Halloween in 1926.
Many people believe the student's blows were the cause of the ruptured appendix but
doctors say he has been struggling before the blows and the blows merely him a reason
to ignore the pain.
Houdini was a great magician and escape artist of his time and even our time. From
escaping being dangled by a crane to being locked in a water cell, he was indeed a
changer of magic.

He once was on a train going to school by himself and he was doing tricks to these ladies. When his stop arrived, the train's brakes stopped and David dropped all of his cards. He and the ladies helped him pick them up but by the time they were all picked up two to three stops had gone by. But David didn't know what to do but the ladies took him to the right train that that headed back to his stop. They even dropped him off at his school. He thanked them and he realized how big of an impact magic had on people.
David was a teen when he became a waiter and he did magic for people at restaurants. But he realized that he can't make a difference or a big impact on the world by waiting on people. So that's when he went out and did magic at parties and events. But at the time his mother was ill from cancer. She sadly died when David came back from Saint-Tropez. She always supported David in his magic and her passing wasn't going to stop him. Him and his friend went out and got a million dollar deal with ABC. Since then he's done specials on their network.
