A selection of four salad oil bottles
The outer two bottles commonly known as straight fluted and whirley, are abundant in Australian rubbish tips dating from the 1880s to 1900.
The two in the centre date from the 1860s to 1870s and are much less common.
Due to the extensive Australian goldfield rushes of the 1850s onwards, oil bottles such as the centre two were given the the common name of:
