Forty-seven(22 Western OK, 17 Eastern OK, 3 Southwest OK, 1 South Central OK, 2 Tulsa Transportation, 1 Tulsa Facility, 1 Oklahoma City Facility) RAIN Teams consisting of approximately 401
people are operating in Oklahoma. Congregations represented include: African Methodist
Episcopal, Assembly of God, Baptist, Buddist, Catholic, Christian (Disciples of Christ), Church of Christ, Congregational,
Episcopal, Jewish, Metropolitan Community Church, Nazarene, Presbyterian, Quaker (Society of
Friends), Religious Science, Unitarian, and United Methodist.
These teams have served 577 HIV-infected individuals, their families and care givers. Ninety-one
clients are being served currently. A team serves a client for the duration of the illness and is not
assigned again until the team has gone through a RAINbow Retreat followed by a period of time
to process and deal with what it has experienced.
RAIN Team training sessions are being attended by members of the medical and mental health
community, volunteers for community-based organizations, family members living with HIV, and
church members who want the education but are not serving on a RAIN Team.
RAIN Volunteers logged over 416 hours in June 2000, and drove more than 495 miles in June 2000
