Ruby the Red Lored Amazon Parrot

Ruby

Hi, my name is Ruby, I'm a Red Lored Amazon Parrot. My new mom, Debbie, is working on my page right now so keep checking back (just in case you ran into my page by accident).

Yep, this is me, I'm Ruby.

The home I use to have did not treat me very well, I didn't get a good balanced diet, and didn't have any toys to chew and distroy or to play with, and that's important for any parrot! Give us a chance and we will chew anything we can get our little beaks on!! *LOL*
Or in my case a fairly large beek with ALOT of pounds of pressure per square inch on the bite. Ask my mom, she found out! But I had to let her know that my new cage was MY space and my space alone. Of course she understood what I meant, but I had to be sure she knew.
You see, my old cage was very small and rusty, and all of a sudden I was put into a cage the size of a castle and man was it nice! I had room to spread my wings and climb around. Wait, what is that, TOYS!! I have toys!! Wow, my new mom and dad put toys in my new cage!!
This is the life I should have had 8 years before now, but no one seemed to care, I was just pretty to look and and could say "hello, "Ruby-do" and make a beeping noise. This new home is very different, and my new family talks to me and scratches my head when I bow down close to the bars.

My new sister, Emily, was brave enough to let me come out of my cage the first night and I sat quietly on her shoulder. She fluffed my neck feathers and scratched my head, all I could do was just lay my head down and let her go for it, what a feeling, I could have let her do this all night long, but I was happy, I know I'm loved now.
As you can see, I am very ragged on my back feathers, no one payed attention to me at my old home and that's a MAJOR part of being a parrot. We need LOTS of attention, so when I didn't get any attention I picked my feathers and went into a severe molt. Most of it due from lack of the proper nutrients and a balanced diet, I will look better in about 6 months.... that's a promise!

Well, this is it so far, I have a new home, a new diet of Zupreem pellets, fresh fruits and veggi's, and mom even scrambled me an egg, shell and all, with peas, carrots and corn the first night! What a feast! The next day I went to the vet for a checkup and showed my "split personality". I put up a fight when he put me in a birdie papoose to trim my talons and beak, but I came out alive and better for wear. The vet knew I would be taken care of in my new home, he's my friend now and will see that I'm doing ok when mom takes me back in a month for my routine check-up to see how I'm comming along with my feather problem.
