Boggan
Household fairies (SH).
- Court: Seelie
- Birthrights:
- Craftwork: As written
(performing craft and household tasks at supernatural speed), except costs 1
Mana trait; +1 Crafts.
- Social Dynamic: as
written = +1 Empathetic (may be used in Seeming).
- Frailties: Call of the Needy: As
written; = + 1 Gullible in challenges related to enlisting the boggan's
aid with some sob story.
- Immunity: Boggans may (but need not) freely retest any challenge
aimed at preventing them from helping the needy, including those related to
supernatural powers of persuasion.
- Bans: "Craftwork" birthright cannot be observed by
non-boggans; Cannot resist passing on relevant gossip.
- Weakness: Cold Iron
- Binding: True Name: a mortal possessing a boggan's true name
can effectively enslave the fairy for a year and a day. Social challenge + 2
simple tests ("dodge" with Empathy or Subterfuge); can
be ended prematurely by the mortal or renewed with a new challenge after a year
and a day. What the boggan does to the mortal afterwards depends on his nature
and treatment, possibly mitigated out of admiration if the mortal obtained the
True Name in some particularly clever way.
- Regaining Mana: Degeneration, Oblation, Reverie, Rapture.
- Preferred Disciplines: Auspex, Celerity, Thaumaturgy
(Elemental Mastery, The Hearth Path, Movement of the Mind,
Path of Conjuring)
- Origin: The few boggans of Earthly origin who remembered their
true nature bound themselves as protectors or household spirits to families
whose belief strengthened them through the Separation; such fae frequently have
the Faerie Godparent Merit. Earthly boggans were otherwise rather solitary
and did not maintain ties with other fae.
- Appearance: Boggans tend to be shorter and stouter than humans, with bulbous noses, pointed ears, and bushy eyebrows (in fact, most have extra sets on their forehead). Still, boggans of low Rank who lack the Seeming Background can generally pass as human with the aid of large hats.
