Alumnae Connection

Ohio Women’s Crew Alumnae Association was founded in the spring of 2003. The idea of the association came at MACRA, our home regatta. In the past, this event has been a huge alumnae event for the men’s team. While witnessing a huge sense of unity among the current and past members, we as a team realized how much we also desired that unity with our alumnae. Vice president at the time, Robin Bramsen, took the initiative to work with the alumnae to begin this association.

This association was created so that each of our former rowers and each of the present rowers could still be teammates even if we never rowed in the same boat. We want to recognize the legacy these strong women have left us playing a crucial role in making our current experience and love for this sport possible. We look up to these past members as they paved the way of this team. The team looks to give insight into what goes on with the current team during the season and give the alumnae a chance to be a part of what will be going on in our future.

Main Goals of Association:
• Keep alumnae informed about success and needs
• Build unity and experience amongst current and past members
• Gain support and guidance from our alumnae
• Build a strong financial support system

It has been decided that the position of Vice President will include the duties of alumnae chair, bridging the gap between our past and current members. Alumnae newsletters are sent out quarterly along with donation letters as needed.

There is so much more to rowing than hardships, because the second we step into the boat and push off, those hardships are left on the shore. From that point on, it is about learning and teaching each other. We learn to survive on the water, we are apart of every sunrise, and our constant struggle is against our individuality. It is a true team that comes together and can let go of themselves long enough to come eight girls rowing as one person, and that the concept of team endures through loss sand pain, reaching to the heart of everyone of us. Love of this sport is something we all share; it is the bond that forms between teammates and from this point on we hope it is the bond that will bring our team together with our alumnae.

If you have been a member of Ohio Women’s Crew for at least one year, we welcome you to join us on our quest. Please contact Shannon Henry, for more information or even ideas and suggestions. We look forward to expanding our association and continuing your legacy.
