Oh Blah! Productions DV

In 1995 I did this MultiMedia course. We had 8600 PowerMacs which were top of the line then. Yet, with 128MB Ram we could only capture and edit 320x240 video from VHS.

5 Years later I managed to acquire a DV camera and a Firewire Interface for my PC and voila! full screen digital video editing. The products are on display here.

This has only been my second production ever. The first one being a school video I shot in 1994 and editted with two video machines. After dubbing sound effects and tracks we ended up with a 4th generation copy. Ever noticed what happens when you copy a copy that was a copy of a copy? It starts looking funny.

Nevertheless, "Bye Bye Brunei" is my first Digital production that was edited in a non-linear spectacular with semi-professional software. More will follow soon. I hope.

Tools of DV

Seeing as how I haven't made any real money out of this yet (Bye Bye, Brunei has been largely a friends product) the tools are pretty basic. My trusty Sony DCR-PC3E with it's 2x 60 minute InfoLithium batteries (30min if you use the LCD display) does the recording, and ULead's great DV Studio Basic does the Sony DCR-PC3E and friendsediting on my laptop with the Firewire PC Card.

Not a bad cam at all. The quality is fantastic and it's got more gizmo's and gadgets that I'll probably use.

The coolest feature is the night vision mode with an infrared light. The worst feature is the omni-directional microphone which pics up everything except someon talking right infront of the camera. Well, not really, but it seems that way.

Ulead, who always seem to do great products and then distributes them in Basic or LE, has outdone themselves with this software. Just what a low budget amateur like me needs. Anyway, transitions, sounds and the like are extremely easy to do. Only pity is that in this version you have only one video track to work with, which is only annoying when you'd like to do overlayes. It still does great video though.

Coming Soon:

Well, all the other plans I have been scheme and caniving to do, have gone to pot, due to various reasons good and not so good. The next up-and-coming project is extremely exciting though, but I can't say anything as it's top secret and if I tell you, I'll have to kill your computer.

It's going to be an advert and its for a project we're working on at school... there, I've probably said to much already. However, keep your eyes on these pages. I'm hoping to inclue the advert as streaming media.
