Although Zoo's may be great fun to visit and an exciting and adventurous outing, have you ever thought of what it would be like for the animals in the Zoo? Having nothing to do all day but pace back and forwards. Having people stare in at you all the time taking pictures and laughing and pointing at you. It is not acceptable to hold a human captive and you can even be taken to jail for this yet everyday animals are being held captive in zoos all around the world, some in poor conditions and the only purpose in life to entertain. Some Zoo's state that they are a source of education but this is untrue as to observe an animals living habits you must observe them in their natural habitat. Many animals in the Zoo go mad and can die or become very ill!
Alternatives- Wildlife Parks, Safaris, Nature Reserves, BushWalks, TV (Animal Channels) If you cannot see animals in their natural habitat in a happy mood it would be better to see them on TV.
Facts- Some Gorillas in Zoo's are overwhelmed by their boredom that they amuse themselves by eating their own vomit. Zoos often sell or even kill animals who no longer attract visitors.

What you can do- There are many ways in which we can help to save the animals from the Zoo, it may seem small but every little bit helps! If you have a look at the alternatives you can see their are many other ways to see animals other than Zoos. Possible things you can do is to stop visiting Zoos altogether and explain to people why you are against Zoos and hopefully spread the word about the cruel enslavement of the animals. If you feel very strongly about Zoo's you can write to the elected officials with your concerns about the treatment of animals in Zoos. For more information you can contact the WSPA who will give you tips on how to address the matter and contact details of the elected officials.
