Cruelty to animals in the Circus is one of the most urgent issues. Animals in the circus are hauled all around the country shackled and chained when not in use, confined in small cages. They are forced to do unnatural tricks with the use of beating, electric shock, deprivation and intimidation. We find this sort of thing unacceptable to bestow upon humans e.g. we find it quite horrific that Giraffe Women in northern Thailand are kept chained and guarded for people to be entertained yet we are doing the same thing if not worse to animals in circuses.
Alternatives- Circuses WITHOUT animals is the best alternative!
Facts- Some animals have no access to water or overnight shelter. Animals are forced to do tricks that can seriously damage them by beating, electric shock, deprivation and intimidation. Animals health and physical appearance is seriously neglected and they are hardly ever washed or cleaned. Tigers and Lions usually travel in cages 4ft by 6ft by 5ft Bears may have their noses broken or their feat burned to make them stand on their hind legs. In the wild the life expectancy of an elephant is the same as ours but in circuses many Elephants die prematurely from disease or from the stress of confinement.
How you can help- The easiest way to help animals in the circus is to stop visiting circuses with animals and explain to family and friends why you are against animals in the circus. If your friends and family invite you along to a circus that has animals reject the invitation and persuade them not to go by using facts about the cruelty the animals endure.Write letters to the circus explaining how you and your family and friends could never attend a circus with animals and why. For more information you can contact the WSPA who will give you tips on how to address the matter plus contact details.
