OUR YEARS IN RETROSPECT
1960 was a busy year for our Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron. Not only did they serve Kirkwood Chapter, but they also ran a business.
Harmony Club gave us our lovely Signet in 1961. The Chapter gave three hundred dollars ($300.00) towards the purchase of a new furnace for the Temple. Sister Marion Turner was appointed District Deputy Grand Matron.
The Worthy Matrons project for 1962 was successful and a new refrigerator was purchased. The Harmony Club gave us new stainless steel flatware (which is still being used).
Our Golden Anniversary was the highlight of 1963 and was held at LeChateau. Lovely silver spoons with a golden bowl lining were the souvenirs. All our officers wore gold dresses. Sister Katherine Gabriel was appointed as Grand Representative of Oregon.
The Past Masters Room was redecorated in 1965 as the Worthy Matrons project. Sister Marion Turner was appointed as Grand Representative of Texas.
A new piano was the Worthy Matrons project in 1966. It is also the year that Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron, Eula and Willie B. Thomson, were installed on their 35th wedding anniversary.
Another refrigerator was purchased in 1967 and installed on the lower level. Cookbooks were sold by the dozen and because the Sisters and Brothers were so hardworking there was very little expense to the Chapter. Our Worthy Patron was an avid fisherman and we had fish served at the annual pot luck dinner courtesy of his efforts. After cooking them all, the Worthy Matron stated that she felt she knew each one by name.
The Worthy Matrons project for 1968 was new funeral robes, and they have been used in our ceremony since that time.
As the Worthy Matrons project in 1969, money was set aside for use in purchasing the carpet. We also had Initiation for nine (9) Candidates. Sister Gladys Yandell was appointed as District Deputy Grand Matron and she and her husband gave our Chapter a new Crown & Scepter.
Sister Gladys Yandell was appointed as Grand Representative of Tennessee in 1971. Five new Star Point chairs were purchased.
