PICTURES Click here to view some pictures of ORV adventures in the Capitol State Forest or Rock Candy Road in Olympia.
DIRECTIONS Go on 5 South.  Take exit exit 104 and travel west.  When you're in a mountainous stretch, you will pass a 76 gas station.  Rock Candy Road is the next exit.  No, don't look for the regular exit with a ramp.  Stay on your left, instead and when there's an opening in the median with a sign that reads, "Rock Candy MT", you're there.  Don't be fooled by what seems like a private road.  Take the road that's obliquely left.  You'll see signs.  There's an empty space where you can park your vehicles.  Except for two restrooms and power poles, there's nothing out there except space to ride!
REVIEWS Only 12 miles SW of Olympia.  If you're in a hurry to get a quick fix from an ORV thrill without having to spend too much (no fees here) or drive too far, this is the place for you.  This ORV spot is also called Rock Candy Road.  If you want driving on unpaved mountain roads, this is your ORV spot!   There are no fees.  Some people actually camp in the ORV area itself and it seems there are no fees.  For a shady, breathtaking view, go up the mountains using the right fork in the road.  You'll see the view we have in our 360 Tour!  Not a kid's spot, though - they could get lost.
NEARBY ATTRACTIONS
There's the Thurston County ORV a few miles farther on State Highway 8.  It has all the amenities plus camping.  Better for kids but it's $8/person per day and it's open only Friday to Tuesday.
You can always go farther west and have a choice of going either to Ocean Shores or Westport for beach fun.  It's only an hour from Rock Candy Road.  You can do a little shopping in Aberdeen, too.
