Go on I-90
East past the town of Vantage. You will just go over the Vantage
Bridge when you go South on Highway 243. Turn left on lower crab-creek road past
the small town of Beverly. Don't be fooled by the farmlands -
there are dunes here. A sign to your right will tell you you're
there but before that. |

Crossing the
mighty Columbia on your way to Beverly Dunes, you just can't help but
feel this is a great adventure. At the dunes, you'll notice
variety in terrain but more than half of the area is covered with sand
and large dunes. There are plenty of trails to follow, even where
there's vegetation. The great thing about this place is there are
sheltered spots where you can park and even have picnics. It's northern boundary is fenced in (be on
the lookout for the barbed-wire fence). If you follow the dunes to
the east, you reach the creek (wonderful sight). The south is
bordered by a mighty hill, the southwest by the picnic area, and the
west by private property. If you have kids, they won't get lost
easily. The area is close enough to other recreation areas (water
sports, fishing, windsurfing, boating, hiking). If you're camping
in one of the campgrounds nearby, be sure to secure your campsite -
blustery winds all over (except at the dunes)! |
