Event 6 -
Well what a race, we finally got it right with good conditions, good
weather and a big turn out. With the 12 knot SE wind blowing and a bit
of swell there was runners to catch all the way up the coast to
Mooloolaba.
The lead at the front was closely contested with Matt Carter holding
off a fast finishing Andrew Bavage and Ken Powell with Mick Smith
right behind them who was up there the whole race too.
The Womens Division had a big field thanks to Lisa Curry and a few of
her crew from Mooloolaba racing for the first time in the series.
Outstanding performance by Danielle Lindsay who took line honours in
the Open Womens, just ahead of Lisa Curry winning the Masters and
Robyn Saultry not far behind in 3rd overall.
Thanks to those paddlers who travelled down from North Queensland to
do the race, Darren and Tanya Moohin from Malanuka, Adam Stafford and
Grant Olds from Canoe Point and Ian Bean from Sunset Bay. We were glad
the conditions were good and hoped you all enjoyed the race.
Thanks to the series sponsors KANU CULTURE and ZULU SURF SPEARS, once
again everyone who raced today gets 1 entry into the draw for the
New Zulu OC1 for the end of season presentation.
Big thanks to the support boat drivers for the day, Bryan Gapes for
organising two boats and the crew, Aaron and Alley from Mooloolaba and
Doug May in the IRB for taking the photos below, enjoy.
Hope to see everyone plus more at the next race which is at Air Sea
Resue at the Southport Spit on SUNDAY the 19th of January at 1pm.
