| In case you didn't know, it's possible to change the startup and shutdown
screens of Windows 95. If you're tired of the same old "Clouds"
startup, or the orange "It's now safe to shut down your computer"
shutdown screen, you can change it: even without Desktop Themes installed.
The startup screen is actually a 320x400, 256-color bitmap named logo.sys
in the root directory, and the shutdown screens are named logow.sys
and logos.sys in the Windows folder. Here's a set of logo screens
I made in the Macintosh tradition. I've also thrown in some interesting
WAV sounds. Click here to go back to the wallpapers. |
Actually, I have only one set of logos right now. Just click on the thumbnail to download the ZIP file. The startup screen is pretty simple; just a beveled Mac-style Welcome window over a blue-sheened background. There's even a scrolling bar. The shutdown screen says "You can turn off the computer now" on a black, beveled window. Sorry if I'm WinZip dependent, but I need to save space. So, each WAV sound is compressed into its own ZIP file. Violin: the first strains of one of Bach's violin sonatas. A great Windows startup sound. Mac Chord: Devoted Mac users will find this startup sound familiar. Sosumi: Another Mac favorite; my preferred default beep. William Tell Overture: The peaceful flute part, most popularly known from Bugs Bunny. "Your sound card works perfectly.": The Warcraft2 sound card test. Just a whimsical thing. |
