| Let's face it: default Windows wallpapers are boring. Houndstooth and Straw
Mat and Forest just don't appeal to me; not in the way the Macintosh Rubber
Bands and Stone Tiles do. Of course, on Mac, you can't have centered wallpaper;
it has to be tiled (unless you have a special plug-in, like BackSlash.)
Anyway, for you Windows users out there who are tired of the usual BMP's,
here are a few I conjured up with Photoshop. (To the credit of professional
wallpaper-makers, I haven't yet perfected the method of converting to the
Windows/Mac 256-color system palette without some really ugly dithering.
Hence, these wallpapers will look their best in High color mode. They'll
work in 256-colors, but you may experience the occasional "color flash"
when the system loads another palette.) I have more than just wallpapers! Click here for more Upholstery items, like logo screens and WAV sounds forWin95 customization. |
These are low-res thumbnails. To download the actual BMP file, click on the thumbnail or on the corresponding highlighted title. I recommend that your monitor be in High Color mode. SANDY: All I did was emboss some blurred noise and use Photoshop variations to find a good shade of light brown. I think the seams might come out, though. EARTH: Make this your centered wallpaper, and make your desktop color black. Your desktop will float in orbit. ![]() BLUE STONE: The beauty of this seamlessly textured 64 x 64 pixel wallpaper is its size as a BMP file: only 3K! SPHERES: My own refinement of an old Mac desktop: spheres floating over a mildly textured surface. Tiles nicely. VIGAN TILES: Well, I was trying to get Vigan tiles (popularly used in the Philippines for verandas and gardens), but I got this brickish effect instead. Looks nice anyway. BLUE, BLACK, BLUE: A repeating, seamless gradiation, from dark blue to black. Not quite as intricate, but smoother-looking than Windows' "waves." |
