4/4/03 Some great news from Michelle...

The judge received the message; between the letters, phone calls, and people coming into the courthouse personally, he took notice and did something about it. He reviewed the case and the law to see what he could do. Unfortunately the case against Mr. Sowalskie could not be reinstated due to the double jeopardy law, however the judge was somehow able to suspend Mr. Sowalskie’s driver’s license for a period of 180 days, which was effective April 1st. He also contacted the medical review board to not only physically test Mr. Sowalskie to see if he is capable of driving but also required a driving test prior to him getting his license reinstated. Between my mom, the detective and the judge Mr. Solawskie was reported to the medical review board three times! The judge also changed the system in the courthouse so this should never happen again; all violations with a fatality will be flagged, meaning they must go before a judge. None of this brings Brian back but it does give me a little peace of mind.

I want to thank all of you who wrote letters to the judge and I hope this motivates you to address the legislature as well. I will be sending a thank you note to the judge and I encourage you to do the same.

At this point, the family is requesting that thank you letters be sent to the judge. We ask that you send similar letters. Thank you. As Michelle says, "I feel an impact can be made; the need for change is there we just need to make it happen!" How right you were!!!
